The hotel is atmosphere with a nice blend of the old and new. It is located not too far from Uonuma no Sato and have a complimentary shuttle service to and fro Hatago Isen opposite Echigo Yuzawa Station. The room is big and there is nice heated table area. The bathroom is nice but as with traditional lodgings such as this, it can be pretty cold especially at the bathroom area in winter.
Dinner was served in a bento format at our room. I was a little disappointed that it is a not a proper sit-down meal at the main dining area instead. The bento includes two generously sized onigiri, appetizers, and four main items including a meat patty, grilled fish and braised wagyu.
The onsen bath is also quite nice and loved the bath with the snowy landscaped garden.
Service is generally good and there are snacks and drinks available at the lounge for guests. In the evening, there is also sake and umeshu available for guests.
Everything about the service was top-notch.
The food was all delicious, and there was plenty of it to fill you up, with kaiseki cuisine even including sake, and the option to choose one dish from the menu.
After 10 PM, they offer a late-night snack called 'yonaki soba' (night-time ramen). It's quantity-limited, so when I went a little before 10 PM, many people were already waiting. The dining area has limited seating, but takeaway was an option, so I ate it in my room.
From ice cream after a bath to Yakult in the morning, I was never hungry and felt full the entire time I was at the inn. It was wonderful.
The breakfast was also voluminous, and you could have unlimited rice.
There's also a private bath. While it doesn't have a showerhead, it's a perfect space to spend time with a loved one. It was available when I went in the evening.
Overall, I was surprised by how few Japanese guests there were; most seemed to be Chinese or other Asian guests.
I'd like to stay here again when I go skiing.
There is not close to Murakami Station. I contacted the hotel to book the pick-up station. My luggage was heavy. Thanks to the driver of the pick-up service.
The hotel is some years old, but the room is very spacious and cleaned up, and the family seems more suitable.
The hot spring is very comfortable, and the carp swimming board in the corridor is very interesting. The breakfast dishes are very delicious.
The room has a tour map of Libo Hot Spring Street, most places can be reached on foot, the sidewalk is very narrow, you need to pay attention to passing vehicles.
Although the sun is very hot, the sunset sea view is really beautiful.
We booked a Superior Room 25 Sq m
Location is not near Niigata Station
But it’s Bandai Centre, lots of shopping & eating
My friend was sick, front desk was helpful finding a clinic nearby.
Extremely satisfied! The hotel may be small, but it's full of warmth and personal touches. The staff were always proactively greeting us, asking if we needed a shuttle, and even offered to call a driver for us wherever we went. Even though we only stayed for a short two nights, we'll definitely be back. The open-air bath on the fourth floor was incredibly comfortable and simply amazing. All in all, it's super convenient whether you're heading to Gala Yuzawa ski resort or Echigo-Yuzawa JR station.
If you want true ski in ski out , then I would recommend this hotel. The lifts are just just 50 meters outside the hotel buildings and they lockers for each room to keep your gears, which is very convenient. As for breakfast the spread is acceptable for the price charged.
The rooms are rather small and I found some dusts on the furnitures. It would be better if the reception staff can speak better English, I had to go back 3 times because they kept on giving me the wrong room card (they mixed up my father’s room card and mine 3 times!). I appreciated that they offered to give me a fan when I told them the heat was too stuffy.
The vending machines are pretty pricey even for water so it’s better to be prepared.
Onsen is small and the changing area is often quite wet so don’t expect much.
Overall not bad if you want ski in ski out near Tokyo.
Thank you for providing the comfortable hot springs and clean accommodations, allowing us to relax and unwind during our trip. However, our service during this stay fell short of expectations, and we would like to offer some sincere feedback as a reference for your pursuit of excellence.
First, it must be acknowledged that the hotel's facilities are indeed commendable. The excellent quality of the hot springs, and the consistently clean and tidy public areas and guest rooms, demonstrate a five-star hotel's commitment to basic quality, which is impressive.
However, the core of a true five-star experience lies in the service provided by the ”people,” and this is precisely what we found most regrettable. From the moment we arrived at the hotel, we experienced an unexpected ”self-service” atmosphere. We were carrying a lot of ski equipment, making movement quite difficult, yet no porter offered to help us unload our luggage or provide guidance. We had to carry our heavy ski equipment and luggage piece by piece from the vehicle to the luggage cart ourselves; the chaotic process contrasted sharply with the attentive and welcoming service we had expected.
After check-in, several attempts to contact the front desk for inquiries were unsuccessful as the phone remained unanswered for extended periods. This communication breakdown inevitably caused anxiety and helplessness at crucial moments. Furthermore, occasional obstacles were encountered in communicating with staff in English, leading to unnecessary misunderstandings. The most obvious example was a notification letter we received regarding upcoming maintenance work in our room; the English version contained significant translation errors regarding the dates of the work, causing initial confusion. These details reflect room for improvement in the hotel's international service standards.
Additionally, adding hot and cold water dispensers to the common area, particularly in the coffee corner, would be beneficial.
It was very convenient because it was right next to the station, and I was satisfied with the accommodation, breakfast, and transportation. The staff were very friendly, and I will visit again next time I visit on a business trip.
The first time I stayed at a hot spring hotel in Japan, I encountered a super cold current and a blizzard, which did not affect the mood of this experience. From the reception of check-in, the room is clean and tidy, to the departure of the hotel, the counter staff helps to check whether the train has stopped and arranges a shuttle bus to Miyagi Station. The whole experience is very good.

Amazing resort, felt like something out of a Christmas movie. Very friendly and helpful staff who speak very good English as well. Not a lot to do during the day if you aren’t out on the slopes though.
Even my small requests were met. 🙇♂️ Everyone was so kind and helpful, I'm so grateful! It was a facility I'd love to stay at again. Thank you so much.
Wonderful experience from start to finish. The hotel provides a shuttle bus from Echigo Yuzawa station therefore it is very convenient via Shinkansen from Tokyo. I do like the room design, it felt showa-era Japanese with a mix of western scifi at the same time, kinda like the film space odyssey. The receptionist was very kind and gave us discounts for ski lifts. Ski lockers were included so we could keep all our gear downstairs. There are many restaurants to choose from, best meal was the steak paella with the option to add extra meat at Edelweiss. Breakfast view from Kiyotsu restaurant was majestic, got to see the early birds ski while enjoying our meal. We were at the slopes pretty much from the morning until after the sun sets because there was night ski! After a whole day of skiing, resting at the outdoor onsen overlooking the snow garden was surreal, all the pains and aches just disappeared. To end the night, we watched the fireworks display from our room. We went to Naeba to ski but received far more than I expected. Thanks to all thestaff for the wonderful experience. We will be back soon and already planning a return.
Just a short walk from the train station, this place has a fantastic location. The staff are super friendly, and the rooms are clean and spacious. The hot springs are a real highlight, with both indoor and outdoor options to enjoy. Perfect for a relaxing and authentic Japanese stay—highly recommended!
Room was spacious. But overall hotel is old and certain parts of it felt like stepping into North korea. But it was quaint and suited the old town vibes. Hotel provided free shuttle from echigo yuzawa station. Room only had Japanese tea cups and no spoons. Parts of the room had cobwebs and similarly at the onsen. They charged a 150 yen per person per day for onsen regardless if utilised or not. And this charge was not told to us through trip.com or during check in. Staff did not understand English at all. We had to use translator to communicate. The free dinner provided was nice for the first night then it became meh. And they strictly prohibited guests to bring own drinks to dinner as they had a drink menu. 350 yen + tax for a glass of coke. Staff were polite and nice.
Location is good, very close to Echigo Yuzawa JR station, and there are adequate parking space. Room is spacious and onsen is large. Only one problem is the WIFI connection is not good, signal is weak and always disconnected. Dining is good and food is fresh and delicious
Not the hotel’s fault but ski slope was not opened until 27 Dec due to lack of snow. Otherwise it would have been a great ski in and out. Lift pass to Gala was provided. Breakfast and buffet dinner were fantastic. Onsen was as expected with leg massage pools.
An unforgettable stay at Ryugon. Everything was exceptional - from the beautiful traditional rooms to the peaceful onsen and stunning surroundings. The kaiseki meals were thoughtfully prepared and absolutely delicious, showcasing local flavours at their best. The staff were warm, attentive, and made us feel genuinely cared for throughout our stay. A perfect blend of luxury, tradition, and relaxation. Truly special and well worth the experience.
This is a truly relaxing place. At night, stargazing under a light-pollution-free sky allows you to completely immerse yourself in natural tranquility. The hot spring water is gentle and soothing, the large public bath is spacious and comfortable, and the breakfast is exquisite and delicious. It's a truly healing journey.
