However, there were some signs of deterioration, such as doors that wouldn't close due to rust and areas where the concrete was peeling off, which was a bit worrying.
The food and service were excellent, so the facilities were the only slight disappointment.

The main advantages are the incredible seclusion, the amazing surrounding nature, and the captivating beautiful view that you can admire endlessly, plus excellent transfer service. The room is simply stunning: stylish, cozy, and impeccably clean. The local onsen is a special treat; bathing in it is wonderfully relaxing and brings a sense of complete tranquility. The culinary experience deserves the highest praise. The wonderful dinner in traditional Japanese style was a true gastronomic discovery, and breakfast was very tasty and filling. Huge thanks to all the staff for their very polite, attentive, and warm hospitality. We loved everything and didn't want to leave. We will definitely come back here again! Thank you!

HHera_22I chose this hotel mainly for the room view and the private mini-onsen. Even though the hotel isn’t within walking distance from the station, they offer a very convenient scheduled shuttle bus. (Just a quick heads-up: if your Odoriko train is delayed, as happened in my case, you might miss it, so be sure to plan your time with a buffer!)
The hotel itself is a bit dated, but cozy. During this time of year in Japan, there are quite a few insects around, which naturally affects the hotel as well. Upon check-in, I noticed a couple of bugs in my room and reported it to the front desk. They promptly arranged an extra cleaning, and I didn't see any more bugs after that.
The in-room onsen was clean and at a comfortable, not overly hot temperature. On clear nights, you can actually see the stars from it! I truly enjoyed relaxing in the evenings: listening to the sound of the ocean, stargazing, counting ships in the distance, and watching the lighthouse light up.
Breakfast is served buffet-style with both Western and Japanese options. I usually went for fish or rice, and found everything quite delicious.
The staff at the front desk are very welcoming and always ready to help. Their English is decent, but Google Translate also works great if you're worried about communication.
Within walking distance from the hotel, there is a scenic island I highly recommend visiting it at sunrise or sunset!
A few useful tips for future guests:
- There are no convenience stores or shops near the hotel, so it’s best to buy food and snacks in advance. There is a fridge in the room!
- Keep in mind that almost everything in Shimoda opens late and closes early, so plan your daily schedule accordingly.
I will definitely return here one day. Shimoda is a truly wonderful place!

Qqinqin09Stepping into the hotel was such a pleasant surprise! It felt like entering a Southeast Asian resort. Facing the endless ocean, my mood immediately relaxed. The service was also excellent; staff escorted us to our room and meticulously explained how everything worked. For dinner, since my daughter doesn't eat seafood and there wasn't an à la carte menu, the hotel specially prepared Udon noodles and Western dishes for her – we were so grateful! In the evening, lying quietly by the pool, gazing at the stars and moon with my favorite music playing in my headphones – this is what life is all about! I'd love to come back and stay a few more nights if I get the chance.

NNarima MWe really enjoyed our stay here! While the hotel is a little out of the way, it was the perfect choice for us as it's conveniently located near the speedway, which was the main reason for our visit. If you're driving, the free parking is a huge plus, and there's also a shuttle service if you don't have a car.
The room was clean, comfortable, and well-equipped with thoughtful amenities. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and we slept very well. Very good gym which we utilised After a relaxing soak in the onsen, enjoying the complimentary milk was such a nice touch and something we looked forward to.
We added breakfast to our stay, and it was definitely worth it. There was a wide variety of delicious Japanese and Western options, with plenty to choose from each morning.
Overall, it was a wonderful stay with excellent facilities and friendly staff. We'd definitely stay here again, especially if we're visiting the speedway.

GGuest UserDefinitely worth the price for an onsen hotel. The ocean view and tatami style bedroom are the highlight for my stay here! There is free bus shuttle service scheduled by the hotel, as a solo traveller who doesn’t drive, this definitely is a plus point! Will book my stay at here next time when I visit Atami :)

AAksi KoMy brother and I stayed at Hotel Associa Shizuoka during our trip, and it was absolutely fantastic. The location couldn't be better – it's directly connected to JR Shizuoka Station, which made traveling around the region so easy and convenient.
The view was absolutely breathtaking! Our room was on one of the upper floors, and we had a stunning panoramic view of Mount Fuji right from our window. Waking up to that sight every morning was unforgettable. The city views at night were equally beautiful.
The room was spacious, spotlessly clean, and very comfortable. The beds were great, and we slept really well. The bathroom was also well-equipped and modern.
The breakfast was excellent – a wonderful buffet with both Japanese and Western options, all fresh and delicious. It was the perfect way to fuel up for a day of exploring.
The staff were professional, polite, and always ready to help with a smile. They made us feel very welcome from the moment we arrived.
Overall, Hotel Associa Shizuoka offered us amazing value, incredible views, and top-notch service. We would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Shizuoka!

GGuest UserThe structure seems to be a legacy of the bubble era. The luxurious layout allows you to move between the main building and each building via pedestrians.
It's reminiscent of the 5-star hotels of Phuket and Bali of the past. The all-inclusive plan also feels like good value.
Unfortunately, however, maintenance of the interior and exterior has not kept up, and various parts are badly deteriorated. The bathhouse is also made of good granite, so it should be polished properly. The exterior walls are so black that you want to use a Karcher cleaner. I wish it was a little cleaner.

We had a wonderful stay at Hotel Mars Garden Wood Gotemba. The hotel was clean, comfortable and well-maintained. Our room was spacious, beautifully designed and offered a relaxing outdoor onsen after a long day of sightseeing.
The location is convenient, with easy access to nearby attractions and shopping areas. The hotel facilities, including the onsen, were excellent and provided a perfect way to unwind.
Overall, this was one of the best hotel experiences we’ve had in Japan. We highly recommend Hotel Mars Garden Wood Gotemba and would definitely stay here again on our next visit.
Note to forget, view of Mount Fuji from the hotel made our stay even more memorable.

GGuest UserSecond time staying here. This time, I was lucky enough to have a room with a view of Mount Fuji. The hotel isn't far from the JR station, about a ten-minute walk, so it's very convenient for going out to eat. The hotel rooms are quite spacious, and the breakfast is plentiful. The hotel service is also excellent. It's definitely worth staying here.
