Our room was conveniently located right by the pool entrance, making swimming incredibly easy! It faced the ocean, but the waves were too rough for swimming, so we could only enjoy walks along the beach. As it was the weekend, the hotel had children's activities and evening shows. The buffet was very generous, and the desserts were delicious. A big thank you to Jayaru who checked us in; they discovered it was my birthday the next day and surprised me with a birthday cake at breakfast.

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights, we were quickly settled and met with a welcome drink. The staff were very friendly, but the rest of the hotel staff were very strangely behaving(noisy, shouting, arguing among themselves). From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by wonderfully friendly staff at the reception desk, and our positive impression continued when we saw our room. It was incredibly spacious and spotlessly clean and a perfect space to relax in. Unfortunately, our enthusiasm dipped when we looked out the window. We had eagerly anticipated the sea view we booked, but found ourselves on the first floor looking directly onto the main path to the restaurant. The lack of both a view and privacy was a real disappointment. The challenges were compounded by a local festival taking place during our stay. This rendered the beach unusable due to the sheer volume of people. Worse, the road closures made leaving the hotel a logistical headache, leaving us feeling a bit trapped. A final frustration was discovering there were no shops nearby and no convenience store in the hotel itself, so be sure to pack everything you might need. In summary, while we can't fault the hotel on its cleanliness or the friendliness of its staff, the experience was significantly hampered by the room mix-up and the festival chaos. It wasn’t a bad stay, but it was far from the relaxing getaway we had planned.

We stayed at this hotel for one night. While the property is quite old and the décor and furnishings are noticeably dated, the room was impeccably clean. I was able to walk barefoot in the room without any discomfort, which reflects the hotel’s strong cleanliness standards. The location is one of the hotel’s highlights, situated beautifully along Hikkaduwa Beach with plenty of beach chairs and sunbeds available for guests. Breakfast and dinner were satisfactory, though not particularly outstanding. The service was very good, with warm, friendly, and attentive hospitality, which is consistent with the high standard of service generally found in Sri Lanka. The hotel was also very kind in allowing our driver to stay as well, which was a thoughtful and generous gesture. Overall, it was a pleasant beachfront stay with excellent cleanliness and service, despite the aging facilities.

My trip to Sri Lanka staying at RIU Hotel was amazing. It was my first time booking an All-Inclusive package, and I wasn’t quite sure what to expect—but overall, the experience exceeded my expectations. There were a few areas that could be improved. The food, for instance, felt a bit low in quality, with limited options for a healthy diet. The gym was quite small, with limited equipment, and it would be great if the opening hours were extended to accommodate more guests throughout the day. That said, the service was exceptional. The staff were attentive and professional, always anticipating guests’ needs—especially in the buffet restaurants. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to try the à la carte restaurants as they were fully booked and very much in demand—something we weren’t aware of in advance. We’d definitely love to return once the monsoon season is over, as the weather wasn’t ideal during our stay. The beach, while beautiful, was unsafe for swimming at the time, which was a bit disappointing.

I really liked the hotel itself. The room is well-equipped, there is even wireless charging, YouTube TV works. Stylish, modern, clean. There is a beautiful swimming pool with a view. It is perfect for a secluded, quiet holiday. A tuk tuk takes you to the nearest beach. But you still have to walk a bit. The beach is wave-free, you can swim. The restaurant is priced above average, but it is delicious and well-served The tuk tuk drivers try to increase the price because the hotel is on a mountain.

Service: Settled early and fast, cleaned in room 2 times a day!!!!!! , the pool is clean, the food in the restaurant is delicious , but expensive. The ocean is not calm here, but if you are on a car or on a bike, 10 or 20 minutes in different directions and either Unavatuna or Veligma or Mirissa ( tuck will also deliver ). Restaurants are also in step-by-step availability. I'm the second time in Sri and there's something to compare with, so I highly recommend.
