Create a “compost menu” for Blind Lemon Nightcrawler, play the giant Wormland game, make slime, and learn all about worms. Create a “compost menu” for Blind Lemon Nightcrawler, play the giant Wormland game, make slime, and learn all about worms’ vital roles in soil. Join the Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council (WRWC) and 15 Minute Field Trips for a year of family-friendly guided walks along the Woonasquatucket River Greenway. Explore the science of nature, craft, and play, while discovering the plants, animals, and habitats right in your community. Location and Parking The walk begins at the Woonasquatucket River Greenway where it intersects Goldsmith St—you can use the address 15 Goldsmith St, Johnston, RI 02919 in your GPS. This area along the Woonasquatucket River is called The Manton Pond site and includes a Native Plant Garden, The Manton Outdoor Classroom, the Manton Fishway, and examples of stormwater management and streambank restoration. The transformation of this area into a vibrant community space is part of WRWC’s work in restoring the health of the Woonasquatucket River while creating a new hub for education, recreation, and resilience. There are limited parking spaces at the Manton Outdoor Classroom, including handicap spots. If these fill up, there are overflow spots further down on either side of Goldsmith St. Difficulty/Accessibility These walks are open to all ages and accessible to most paces. The walk moves at an exploratory pace, stopping frequently and usually covering about a mile over the course of an hour. The Woonasquatucket River Greenway is a paved, multi-function trail. It is wheelchair accessible but currently does not get plowed/salted in the winter. There is not a public bathroom or water source at this site, so plan accordingly. The nearest public restroom is at the Cumberland Farms on Killingly Ave. Language This guided walk is conducted primarily in English. Part of our Monthly Series: Greenway Wild Walks Greenway Wild Walks are monthly scheduled family-friendly strolls on the Woonasquatucket Greenway and the perfect way for you to get to know your wild neighbors. These walks are led by Melissa of 15 Minute Field Trip s and take place the third Saturday of the month from 2-3:30 pm (with a few exceptions, see dates!). Each walk highlights a featured species or environmental subject, and includes hands-on elements like crafts, games, and pelts and furs to interact with. The Woonasquatucket River is a unique wildlife corridor near you with diverse flora and fauna to explore. Join these monthly community walks, and you can also discover some of the life along the river ANYTIME on this iNaturalist page , and add your own observations! This event is offered by the Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council (WRWC), a 501c non profit that works to create, restore, and sustain the Woonasquatucket River, its Greenway, and its communities. Through environmental education, restoration projects, recreation programs, and advocacy, WRWC builds a vibrant, healthy watershed that connects people and nature across Rhode Island. This event is offered by the WRWC in partnership with 15 Minute Field Trips, an organization dedicated to connecting people of all ages with the outdoors through accessible, hands-on learning experiences. Together, we aim to inspire curiosity, foster environmental stewardship, and encourage exploration of the natural world in our own communities. If you’re a visual learner like me, I’d loooove to nerd-out with you in this class! :) Could you relate to any of these? You feel anxious when cutting hair You worry about being asked to do a haircut you are unfamiliar with You are tired of memorizing haircuts You want to move away from relying on texturizing and “winging-it” You want to start designing and creating customized haircuts for your clients You are not alone! That was me too! I graduated not knowing how to cut hair. I memorized haircuts from: hands-on classes demos hair shows videos etc. Then, I memorized theory like: angles terms definitions rules etc. Things improved significantly for me when I took the time and effort to actually “understand” theory. In this class, you'll learn haircutting by actually " seeing " theory -and not just by taking my word for it! :) Learn from: string and ribbon visuals photos and graphics interactive workbook 2D animations 3D animations demonstrations It will be a total fun nerd-out session for us visual learners!! :) Theory Portion I. Design: You’ll learn how to design the perfect haircut for a client based on their: face shape head shape hair type lifestyle etc. II. Mechanics: Then you’ll learn and SEE different ways to execute your design. elevation overdirection finger angle section tension Hands-on Portion My favorite part! It’s because I get to prove to you that YOU GOT THIS! I’ll give a hypothetical consultation and the class will: design the haircut tell me how to do each step try it out on their mannequin heads I’ll demo the haircut we come up with on a mannequin. I’ll share 2D and 3D animations so you can SEE the mechanics of haircut even clearer. You’ll do the haircut on your mannequin. I'll go around giving tips, assisting, and answering questions. :) Who is this class for? People from all over the US and the world have taken this class and learned side-by-side: Cosmetology students newer stylists stylists with 35+ years of experience product company educators independent educators cosmetology teachers barbers, etc. This is for anyone who wants to give deeper into creating instead of following, copying, and memorizing. It is for stylists who are self-motivated and willing to invest time and effort in independent study and practice after the class. Who is this class NOT for? We all have different goals, current priorities and we are in different seasons in life. So there’s seriously nothing wrong if you can relate with any of the following: You just want someone to tell you how to do a haircut step-by-step You want to learn a specific haircut You’re not able to or not interested in making the time and effort to study and practice outside of a class I do hope that I get the opportunity to meet you later on! :) Class Schedule Check in / Attendance: 8:50 am - 9:00 am Theory: 9:00 am - 12:00 pm Break: 12:00 pm - 12:30 pm Hands-on: 12:30 pm - 3:00 pm *The start of break may vary depending on class participation. To keep the class prices low and more accessible, lunch won’t be provided. During the break, you can leave, eat somewhere, and come back. I personally like to stay with a packed lunch that does not require refrigeration or heating. If you’d like to do the same, stay and hangout with me while I eat and set up for the hands-on portion. :) What to bring: Uncut mannequin head with medium length hair Tripod (no clamps please) Scissors Cutting comb 4 duck bill clips Water bottle Pen More Information: Visit www.shannelmariano.com/education for more information about the class. Hope to see you at the class!! :) Information Source: Shannel Mariano | eventbrite

Brothers and sisters are often our longest lasting relationships. Sibshops is a curriculum designed to celebrate and support these amazing siblings or “sibs.” Sibshops provide sibs with peer support and information in a fun, recreational setting similar to a day camp, and it is best suited for children age 7 - 12 years old. Sibshops are lively, pedal-to-the-metal events where your child will: Meet other kids who have a sibling with special healthcare needs. Talk about the good parts and the hard parts of having a sibling with special needs. Learn about the services their sibling receives. Explore how other kids handle sticky situations sometimes faced by their siblings. Laugh, play games, most importantly, have fun! Each Child Serve Sibshop event is unique and may have a theme depending on the time of year. Your child may attend multiple Sibshop sessions in the same year.
