Join the metalsmithing community at NW Rockhounds in Seattle for the Hot Open Studio event on Wednesday, February 28th. This 4-hour time block is designed for metalsmithing students who want to practice torch work and pursue independent projects with instructor guidance. Led by Christina Bengtson, this event is open to individuals aged 18 and up.
During the Hot Open Studio, participants will have access to a complete butane torch station, necessary tools, and a basic toolbox. Additionally, a wide variety of specialty tools including mandrels, hammers, and clamps will be available for use. Rolling and wire mills will also be provided with supervision. Beginners with basic butane torch experience are welcome to attend.
Please note that this event does not offer formal scheduled instruction, but Christina will be present to answer questions and provide guidance. Participants are not required to stay for the full 4-hour time block and can drop in or leave at any time. However, registration must be completed no later than 24 hours prior to the event.
To participate, bring your own metals, solder, flux, and stones. There is a $5 kit fee payable to the instructor on the day of the class. Please come prepared to pay this fee. Further instructions will be sent via email a few days before the event.
The Hot Open Studio event will take place at NW Rockhounds located at 2720 NE 115th Suite A in Seattle. The classroom is upstairs and limited to 6 students for this class. Join the Silversmithing Level 3 - Anticlastic Band Rings (with or without spinners) class in Seattle. This intermediate level class, taught by Christina Bengtson, will teach students how to create shaped rings from sheet metal using anticlastic raising techniques. The class will take place on Thursday, February 29th, from 11:30am to 4pm at NW Rockhounds.
During the class, students will learn how to size, cut, texture, and solder sterling silver sheet to create a well-fitting and comfortable ring. They will also have the opportunity to add spinners and basic patina according to their preference.
Please note that there is a $20 kit fee for this class, which should be paid in cash or check to the instructor on the day of the class. Additionally, this class requires prior experience or completion of Metal Fundamentals, The Jewelers Saw, Silversmithing 1 - Butane Torch, or Silversmithing 2 - Jewelry Soldering.
Make sure to check your email a few days before the class for further instructions. The classroom is located upstairs and can accommodate up to 6 students. Masks are optional.
