Join us for an enchanting evening as our accomplished musicians perform a breathtaking 4-part performance of loved masterpieces including Classical with Ivan Docenko, Jazz/Blues with George Caldwell, American Songbook with Jim Beishline and Pop/Rock/Americana with Joe Rozler. Doors open at 7p and concert begins at 8p. Non-members welcome to attend with ticket Parking located adjacent to the building. Cash bar and light snacks available for purchase. All tickets are general admission. IVAN DOCENKO Ivan Docenko is one of the best-known pianists, accompanists, and versatile musicians in Western New York. He is staff accompanist at Buffalo State University where he works as vocal/instrumental coach, accompanist for the Chamber Choir, solo and collaborative artist, for 30 years. Docenko also serves as organist/pianist for St. Luke's Anglican Church & 1ST Baptist Church in East Aurora. In addition, he performs with the Buffalo Tango Orkestra and the Ed Croft Trio . He holds a B.F.A. in piano performance from the University of Buffalo, where he studied with Stephen Manes and Frina Arschanska Boldt. Musical associations include solo and collaborative performances with the Chopin & Paderewski Singing Societies, Amherst Male Glee Club, Opera Buffs of WNY, Opera-Lytes, Chromatic Club, Community Music School, Lancaster Opera House, Riviera Theater, NRTG, the NACC and Bittersweet Lounge. For QRS, he recorded a Pianomation CD, “Operatic Phantoms” featuring improvisations on operatic themes. He has recorded 2 CDs of music by Alan Kryszak,” Broken Blossoms” and “Transparent Preludes”. He also recorded a CD of tango music for the BTO, “Ecos del Pasado”. In 2020, Docenko accompanied local opera singers in a televised series for WNED-PBS,” On Stage with Buffalo Opera Unlimited”. With his brother Gregory, violinist, he provided music for WNED’S “Polonia” documentary and most recently a live taping for WNED’S “Hear Us Out” series . Classical performances at Buffalo State University can be found on YouTube. Ivan will be preseting Classical selections for the evening on 8/30 at 8:00p. GEORGE CALDWELL George Caldwell is a renowned jazz pianist and educator. He hails from Clarksdale, Mississippi, and has an impressive musical background. Caldwell studied at Memphis State University and Oberlin Conservatory of Music. He was also awarded a Ralph Bunche Fellowship for master's work at Rutgers University. He followed Mulgrew Miller into the piano chair of the Duke Ellington Orchestra and spent seven years with The Count Basie Orchestra under the direction of Frank Foster. Caldwell has shared the stage with legendary artists such as Dizzy Gillespie, Cab Calloway, Quincy Jones, George Benson, and many more. His discography includes several recordings with The Count Basie Orchestra, and his arrangements and compositions have been featured on various albums. In Buffalo, New York, Caldwell leads a quintet of top-tier musicians, performing original compositions and standards from the American songbook. In 2022, he was inducted into the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame. George will be presenting Jazz/Blues selections for the evening on 8/30 at 8:30p. JIM BEISHLINE Pianist, Jim Beishline is recognized for his superb style exhibited in his fine trio arrangements for piano, bass, and drums. Jim's piano styles span the full spectrum from blues to jazz and his versatile talent is featured on many local recordings. He started out in the late seventies, playing with several local bands, including the beginnings of Spyro Gyra before their hit-making days. In the eighties he accepted a road job with Danny and The Juniors and shortly after he returned home to work as a staff piano player for BMK Studios, which produced radio jingles in the Buffalo area. Being stationary allowed Jim the opportunity to teach piano technique, harmony, and theory privately and to perform workshops at The State University of New York at Buffalo and local high schools. Jim was contracted by QRS Records to record solo piano in varied styles for use with player pianos. Jim has performed with numerous local and nationally acclaimed artists, including Muddy Waters, Tony Galla, Chuck Berry, and Jeff Hackworth. In 2009 Jim and partner Janice Mitchell were sponsored by the London Council of the Arts to perform in the UK at their annual jazz fest in coastal Wales. In 2011 Jim had the opportunity to play piano with Aretha Franklin and her band when they performed in Western NY. Jim currently performs in the WNY area as a solo artist as well as with his quartet which includes Vocalist, Janice Mitchell and rhythm section. Jim will be presenting selections from the American Songbook for the evening on 8/30 at 9:00p. JOE ROZLER Singer/instrumentalist Joe Rozler has been a fixture in the Buffalo music scene for decades. Born into a musical family, Joe studied piano and voice at Fredonia School of Music. He’s been active as an entertainer and recording artist in pop, jazz, rock and less classifiable music. In his musical career, Joe has created music for soap operas, video games and TV commercials, sang a lead role in a chamber opera, written orchestral arrangements and toured Europe with a heavy metal band (!). He’s currently performing with 10,000 Maniacs. In 2008, Rozler was inducted into the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame. Joe has prepared a special closing program of popular songs written by piano-playing singers and songwriters for the evening of 8/30 at 9:30p.
