The day will commence with a two-hour contemporary dance workshop led by Richard himself. Drawing on his extensive experience working with renowned UK and international companies, Richard will guide participants through a warm-up class that is both accessible and inclusive.
Building on this foundation, the second part of the workshop will focus on the choreographic process behind Richard Chappell Dance's recent production, Hot House. Richard will share the company's techniques in improvisation, movement generation, and dramaturgy, providing invaluable insights into his creative process.
To conclude the workshop, Richard will facilitate an open discussion alongside RCD Producer and independent artist Clare Parker. They will tackle the topic of self-producing for artists in 2024, exploring essential questions such as portfolio building, freelance momentum, and regional support structures.
Please note that space for this workshop is limited, with only 15 spots available on a first come, first serve basis. The workshop is suitable for professional dance artists in the South West, working in any style or genre. Specifically designed for early to mid-career dancers, this workshop promises to be an enriching experience.

The session will start with mindfulness movement meditation and quick drawings, followed by the opportunity to create visual responses to a figure in experimental clothing. Through various art mediums, exercises, and approaches, you will explore scale, color, and mark making. The afternoon will be dedicated to further development and the creation of refined artworks.
Mark your calendar for Sunday 11th February, when the focus will be on "Inner Self 'creative play'." This day will begin with guided meditation and movement exercises, followed by mark making and drawing in response to everyday environments and nature. You will have the chance to reflect, plan, and create, exploring different possibilities and realms of the imagination.
On Sunday 10th March, we will delve into "Fashion Drawing & Movement Illustration." This workshop will start with movement exercises and exploratory mark making to music, and then you will have the opportunity to draw from a fashion model in experimental designer clothing. Guided tuition approaches will help you explore various techniques and styles.
Join us on Sunday 14th April for "Still Life & Print." The day will begin with guided breathing meditation and relaxation, followed by experimental drawing exercises using still life objects. You will have the chance to play with scale, mixed media, and print, and even bring your own flowers for inspiration.
On Sunday 12th May, immerse yourself in "Life Drawing Day." This workshop will provide structured tutoring in the morning, with a dedicated life model. In the afternoon, you will have the opportunity to develop your work using a variety of media and materials.
Lastly, on Sunday 9th June, we will explore an "ocean theme." Starting at The Box to gather inspiration from the Planet Ocean exhibition, the day will continue with warm-up drawing exercises using a still life set up. You will have the chance to explore composition, texture, scale, and tone, incorporating personal themes in mixed media and paint.
All materials are provided for each workshop, but feel free to bring your favorite art materials and personal sketchbooks. The workshops are priced at £45 per session, with a minimum of four participants required for each workshop to run. So, don't forget to tell your friends!
