Discover the art of traditional Chinese papercutting with the esteemed artist Dr. Tianli Zu at the upcoming Traditional Chinese papercutting workshop. Hosted at the prestigious 16albermarle Project Space in Newtown, this workshop will immerse participants aged 13-100 in the captivating world of Chinese papercutting techniques. Drawing inspiration from Dr. Tianli Zu's work featured in the ongoing exhibition at the venue, attendees will learn the intricate process of folding and cutting while exploring the significance of traditional symbolic patterns and the interplay of positive and negative space. No prior papercutting experience is required and all necessary materials will be provided. This workshop is held in collaboration with the exhibition Home and Away: Eight Asian Australian Artists, which will be showcased at 16albermarle Project Space from November 22 to December 16, 2023. Dr. Tianli Zu, a Sydney-based multidisciplinary artist, is renowned for her expertise in various artistic mediums, including painting, sculpture, multimedia installations, and video. With a deep-rooted passion for Chinese folklore and papercutting techniques, Dr. Zu's art reflects her rich cultural heritage and love for the natural world. Established by art adviser/collector/curator John Cruthers in 2019, 16albermarle Project Space aims to connect Australian audiences with the diverse art of Southeast Asia, fostering deeper engagement with the region. The space has successfully hosted 17 exhibitions to date, featuring artists and artworks from countries such as Indonesia, Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia, the Philippines, and Singapore. In addition to exhibitions, 16albermarle offers public programs, educational materials for students, and art study tours to significant art events in the region.
