"Omstanders naar Medea" is a captivating collaboration between AchterdebergAcademie and Visio Amsterdam, featuring a diverse group of talented performers. Set in front of Medea's house, the play revolves around the imminent banishment of Medea by King Kreon. The haunting cries of Medea echo through the streets of Korinthe, as she despises Jason for leaving her for the princess of the city. Jason's betrayal led Medea to betray her entire family in Kolchis. As the space in front of Medea's house is cordoned off, a film crew arrives, and the stories of Medea and the Kolchian women who surround her take center stage. This contemporary adaptation, titled "Omstanders" (Bystanders) is based on improvisations by the actors, as well as Euripides' "Medea" and Christa Wolf's "Medea. Voices." Ultimately, the play examines the fear of the other and the lack of equal dialogue, culminating in a scapegoat scenario, with Medea as the victim.
