This original FreeWalk will take you on a rigorous and beautiful journey along the East Coast Greenway, covering a distance of 50 miles. Experience the thrill of this challenging adventure as you walk at your own pace, with turn-by-turn directions provided. The group does not stay together, allowing you the freedom to walk as slow or as fast as you choose. Along the way, you'll find plenty of rest stops for bathroom breaks and snacks. However, it is recommended that you come prepared with drinks, food, and appropriate clothing for the day's weather. The walk begins at the MetroPark Station in Iselin, NJ, and ends at NY Penn Station. You can also choose optional endpoints along the route, such as Rahway, Elizabeth, Newark Penn Station, Jersey City PATH, and many other rail stations and options. The terrain is paved, with some hills and roadway crossings, providing a mix of urban and scenic views. To participate, you can catch the NJ Transit train to Metropark from Penn Station at 5:10 am or check the schedule for other locations. The return journey is also via NJ Transit from NY Penn Station to Metropark. Parking is available at the Metropark Station. This expert-level walk is organized by David Ascher, and you have the option to join the group at various points along the way, such as Cranford Train Station or Boston Market in Union, NJ for lunch.
