While no specific equipment is required, participants are advised to bring knee high socks for deadlifts and closed-in shoes for their safety and comfort. ClassicsFest is a pilot project that aims to establish a new cultural festival in North East England. Designed with beginners in mind, this intimate workshop promises to unveil the secrets of collagraphy, a cost-effective printmaking method that yields captivating and often unpredictable results. Under the guidance of Valé Vincent, participants will have the opportunity to create a diverse range of collagraph plates using mat board. The workshop will focus on techniques such as incising and peeling away layers of the plate, as well as applying textures, paint mediums, and glue to the plate surface. Attendees will be encouraged to experiment and develop their skills, exploring variations and combinations within this versatile technique, including al la poupée, chiné colle, and multi-colour prints. To ensure a seamless experience, all course notes and materials, including inks and printmaking paper, will be provided to participants. Attendees are required to bring along their own images and ideas to work with, and are advised to wear old paint shirts or aprons, as well as closed-in shoes for safety. The workshop venue is well-equipped, offering facilities such as a fridge, kettle, and microwave. In light of current circumstances, COVID-19 safety measures will be strictly adhered to. Participants are required to sign in, wash or sanitise their hands upon entering the workshop, and maintain physical distancing throughout the duration of the class. It is essential that individuals with COVID-19 symptoms, recent exposure to COVID cases, or those under isolation do not attend the workshop. Valé Vincent, a highly accomplished printmaker, brings a wealth of expertise and passion to the field. With a Bachelor of Visual Arts, majoring in printmaking, Valé regularly exhibits her work in Newcastle and beyond.
