Join the 2023 Hiking Adventures in Chesterton on November 12th for an exciting outdoor experience. Explore the beautiful Indiana Dunes State Park, located at 1600 North 25 East, and immerse yourself in the wonders of nature. This event offers a perfect opportunity to escape the daily routine, release stress, and connect with positive vibes. Please note that this event takes place at the State Park, not the National Park. Non-residents are required to pay a fee of $9-$12 for park entry, so make sure to bring cash. Wear closed-toe hiking shoes or comfortable walking shoes as we will be hiking through sand, which may find its way into your socks and shoes. Dress in layers, including long-sleeved shirts and long pants, to protect your skin. On cooler days, consider wearing light gloves and ear covers, and bring a rain poncho or umbrella for rainy days. A bandana, hat, and sunglasses are also recommended to shield your hair, eyes, and face from falling leaves, bugs, and sun exposure. Carry a backpack to bring water, snacks, and any other essentials you may need along the way. Allow ample travel time to arrive at the meeting point, Indiana Dunes State Park, 10-15 minutes early. Please follow the provided meet-up directions instead of relying solely on GPS. Before starting the hike, we will provide sunscreen and bug repellent for your comfort and protection. The hike itself will cover 5-10+ miles within a leisurely 4-hour timeframe. We will maintain a relaxed pace with opportunities to appreciate the unique characteristics of each trail, capture memorable photos, and learn more about the natural environment. The group will consist of individuals with varying walking speeds, so everyone can participate comfortably. Throughout the hike, our instructors will also introduce fun activities and challenges at different intervals. To preserve the integrity of the event, we kindly request that participants refrain from using music, social media, or making phone calls, unless absolutely necessary. Snack and bathroom breaks will be provided at regular intervals, and you are welcome to bring your own snacks as well. Outhouses stocked with tissue and hand sanitizer are available along the trail, although they may be limited. Please keep in mind that facilities may be even scarcer on the dunes trail. At the end of the hike, we recommend joining the instructor-led Yoga cool-down and stretch session in the parking lot for a rejuvenating finish. Once you return home, continue stretching and consider taking a hot epsom salt bath to release any remaining muscle tension. A cold shower or alternating between hot and cold showers can also be beneficial for up to three days after the hike.
