Tipperary Dance Festival: Jana Castillo Workshop Jana will be teaching her unique ‘Self Fascia-Release’; (SFR) technique which works to release the dancer’s full physical potential through compression, movement and softening of the body’s ‘glue’, aka fascial network. Jana will equip dancers with an easy-to-learn technique to enhance and support their movement practice and participants will gain a greater understanding of fascia through movement, what it is and why it can cause problems within the body.
The morning Self Fascia Release workshop prepares participants to move more smoothly into the floor during this second workshop. Her progressive exercises, which involve moving in and out of the floor, aim to improve body awareness, flexibility, and strength.
No experience is required by participants, other than being a practising dancer or movement practitioner. The workshop is open to all levels: student, emerging, mid-career and established dancers.
Jana Castillo is an award winning Australian contemporary dancer, an actor, choreographer for screen and stage, and a passionate disability advocate. As a dancer who lives with generalised dystonia and autism, Jana has learnt how to manage her needs, enabling her to evolve her career, practice and that of others. The class ends with phrases containing exercises that have been practiced throughout the session. The combination of fascia release and dynamic movement is effective for enhancing overall physical health and mobility.
