Sweatworking ATX: Moving our bodies while making new besties Sick of awkward and forced networking events? Bored to death of the surface level small talk standing by the snack table? We get it! If you’re looking to meet like-minded women in Austin, Texas who value personal growth, a healthy lifestyle, realness, and deep connections, join us! Jess and Shae would love to invite you to come and Sweatwork with us. A modern spin on networking where we walk + talk to move our bodies while making new besties! A little bit about us: We are two friends who met over 2 years ago at a “speed-friending” event in Austin. We were both new-ish to town (Jess is originally from the UK, Shae is originally from Long Beach, CA) and we instantly connected over our passion for a no BS approach to a healthy lifestyle and resilient mindset. Over the last two years our friendship has developed into a deep bond where we inspire, support, and hold each other accountable. And enjoy LOTS OF LAUGHS! We have spent the last year trying to meet like minded women who love to have a good time and find fun events in Austin without much luck, SO… we made our own! This is NOT your average networking event. We want to bring women together to open each other’s minds & hearts, have great conversations, dive deeper than the surface level ‘who are you & what do you do’ and, make lasting friendships. Let’s get outside, move our bodies, share insights and ideas and really get to know each other! Meet us outside Manana on the corner at 9am sharp! Parking: Parking is availble on the street (free on Sunday's), there is also a paid arking garage at the end of Sandra Muraida. or you can park at Whole Foods (address: 525 N Lamar Blvd, Austin, TX 78703) & get a spot in their garage for free and walk down ( ~ 4 min walk to Sand Beach Park) Once we meet, we will share themes, topics and questions for us all to chat about during our walk. We will walk for about an hour while we get into all the things & get to know each other! We can’t wait to meet you all! Want to bring a friend? The more the merrier! Want to bring a pup? PLEASE DO! P.S it’s hot as hell so don’t forget sunscreen and water! Information Source: Jess Turner | eventbrite

Dance
Solarpunk Summit and Reciprocity Music presents: Welcome to the transformative realm of Cacao Dance. As you step onto the dance floor, embrace the intentional container that encourages silence, creating a sacred space for a deep and immersive journey. The ceremony preceding the dance is led by the beautiful Bruna Bortolato alongside Mose, invoking intention, gratitude, and prayer. This ceremonial prelude lays the groundwork for a profound and spiritually charged dance experience. Cacao Dance is more than just movement; it's a conscious exploration to connect with oneself and community. The dance unfolds with a deliberate arc, starting slow and spacious, allowing participants to attune to the music and let their bodies intuitively guide their movements. The overarching goal is to transcend the mental chatter, diving deep into the heart, embodying the emotions alive in the present moment. The dance reaches a climactic peak, pulsating with full-power energy before gracefully winding down to a slower, softer pace for integration. This alcohol-free container draws inspiration from ancient shamanic practices of entering trance, offering a space for profound insight and personal evolution. The intention is clear: to foster a connection with oneself, community, nature, and spirit in support of the greater collective evolution. As you immerse yourself in the rhythms and energies of Cacao Dance, anticipate not only a dance but a transformative experience, leaving you with insights to integrate into your life's journey. About Mose “Great music is that which carries the present minded listener to the doorstep of infinity.” Mose is based in Guatemala where cacao ceremonies and ecstatic dance have had a major influence on his productions and DJ style. It is here that he founded regular cacao dances where members of the community have the opportunity to journey deep into dance while held in a ceremonial container, free of alcohol. Mose blends multicultural rhythms and sacred chants, often improvising with live musicians to create immersive, site-specific experiences. Viewing his craft as a spiritual practice, he sets a foundation for self discovery and the cultivation of a present minded state which offers new insights and deeper clarity in one's purpose. Featuring special guests Franko Heke and Claraty More on Franko Heke: Franko Heke, of Ngāpuhi Māori and Italian descent is a musician known for his unique fusion of mantraand reggae ‘Cosmic Kirtan. Influenced by Xavier Rudd, Michael Jackson, Guns N' Roses, Cat Stevens,Krishna Das, and Metallica, Franko's music career has taken him on tours across Japan and the USA. More on Claraty Claraty produces works woven with electronic bass, soul, hip-hop, deep house, singer-songwriter and music for the awakening of consciousness. His most recent books include Dr. No (finalist for the NBCC Award for Fiction and winner of the PEN/ Jean Stein Book Award), The Trees (finalist for the Booker Prize and the PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction), Telephone (finalist for the Pulitzer Prize), So Much Blue, Erasure, and I Am Not Sidney Poitier. He has received the NBCC Ivan Sandrof Life Achievement Award and The Windham Campbell Prize from Yale University. American Fiction, the feature film based on his novel Erasure, was released in 2023 and was awarded the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife, the writer Danzy Senna, and their children. ABOUT JAMES When the enslaved Jim overhears that he is about to be sold to a man in New Orleans, separated from his wife and daughter forever, he decides to hide on nearby Jackson Island until he can formulate a plan. Meanwhile, Huck Finn has faked his own death to escape his violent father, recently returned to town. As all readers of American literature know, thus begins the dangerous and transcendent journey by raft down the Mississippi River toward the elusive and too-often-unreliable promise of the Free States and beyond. While many narrative set pieces of Adventures of Huckleberry Finn remain in place (floods and storms, stumbling across both unexpected death and unexpected treasure in the myriad stopping points along the river’s banks, encountering the scam artists posing as the Duke and Dauphin…), Jim’s agency, intelligence and compassion are shown in a radically new light. Brimming with the electrifying humor and lacerating observations that have made Everett a “literary icon” (Oprah Daily), and one of the most decorated writers of our lifetime, James is destined to be a major publishing event and a cornerstone of twenty-first century American literature. A reservation does not guarantee a seat. Line forms upon arrival of the first patron, and doors open 30 minutes in advance. Attendees must present printed or electronic confirmation for entrance. Seats not claimed by 4:20 p.m. will be released. Information Source: John L. Warfield Center for African and African American Studies- UT Austin | eventbrite

Join us for the official book launch of Inside The Well by author Lance Lunsford and published by Texas Tech University Press. The rescue of an 18-month-old girl from a backyard water well in West Texas in 1987 held the world in suspense for 58 hours, but in the aftermath emerged a dark shadow that followed many of the rescuers and volunteers for years. Inside the Well: The Midland, Texas Rescue of Baby Jessica, covers the world-renowned rescue as it unfolded from the moments before Jessica McClure fell 20 feet down a murky well shaft to the triumphant moment she emerged in the arms of a firefighter. Through hundreds of interviews with the news reporters and first responders who were on the scene, author Lance Lunsford examines the conflict between factions of firefighters, police, and volunteers as well as the struggle following the rescue to truthfully document the event for a made-for-TV drama. The book focuses on the life of Robert O'Donnell, the firefighter-paramedic who dislodged Jessica from the well by crawling through a narrow lateral shaft chiseled into layers of cement-like rock. O'Donnell's heroics were celebrated in the months and years following the rescue, but as the limelight faded, troubling issues emerged as adversaries emerged among fellow firefighters and police. The lives of others are examined closely to explore the stigma of PTSD at the time and what happens when priviledged positions of authority crowd out opportunities for accountability. This book launch event will include discussions and copies available for purchase. Join us, and get your copy signed. Information Source: Lance and Michelle Lunsford | eventbrite
