Over Intermezzo: Intermezzo is het verhaal van twee broers, Peter en Ivan Koubek, die proberen om te gaan met de dood van hun vader. Peter, begin dertig, is een linkse advocaat in Dublin. Hij worstelt met zijn steeds chaotischer wordende privéleven. Ivan, tien jaar jonger, is een bedachtzame schaak-speler en, in zijn opinie, het tegenovergestelde van zijn charismatische broer. Tijdens een schaakevenement in een kleine stad ontmoet Ivan de zesendertigjarige Margaret, die haar recente echtscheiding probeert te verwerken. The session will be guided by the story artist Diederick Geers (inst: @diederickgeers), who will share his watercolour urban sketching techniques -- perfect for those who never did urban sketching before or wants to improve their skills! A 3-sessions workshop to create artworks while learning about our environement and how to approach materials as alive entities A 3-sessions workshop on Sept 15, Sept 21 from10h to 13h and Oct 6 in the afternoon. The participants need to follow the 3 sessions. This workshops in three sessions introduces participants to the concepts of community engagement and material exploration through a posthuman and ecological lens. It aims to foster an understanding of our environment and materials in a collaborative way, approaching them as alive entities. Participants will learn to analyze and work with their surroundings, engage with various materials in horizontal terms, and develop a small-scale project reflecting their newfound insights. The overall goal of this workshop is to give the participants conceptual tool to understand and work with their surroundings respectfully because they are also alive. Day 1: Understanding community and context (Sept 15th from 10am-1pm) What is a community with the non-humans? After a short welcome and introduction session, we will carry out a performance/lecture offering and explaining the main conceptual approaches. Answering the questions of: what is a community between human and non-humans? How do you understand and work with them? Day 2: Recognising and engaging with “living” materials. (Sept 21st 10am-1pm) What is materiality? In this session we will understand materials from an ecological and “alive” perspective inviting the participants to explore the local area, collecting sensory data about materials. With the materials gathered, we will ask the participants to make or think about a way of participating with it – making a small artwork. Ideally the objects or products design/made during this session will be shown as part of the exhibition. Day 3: Closing circles – giving back to the non-human community. (Oct 6th in the afternoon) With the help of Osvaldo Padron, we will carry out a “giving back” session/ritual in which the workshop participants will return the materials they gathered and with which they created a small artwork. Ontdek de fascinerende wereld van documentairemaker Vincent Boy Kars tijdens het event ‘Tussen Feit en Fictie’ in Lab111, Amsterdam op maandag 2 september 2024. Op deze bijzondere avond gaan we in gesprek over het innovatieve werk van Vincent, die bekendstaat om zijn unieke stijl waarin de grenzen tussen documentaire en fictie vervagen. Vincent Boy Kars, een pionier in het verkennen van nieuwe vertelvormen, heeft met zijn films zoals ‘Independent Boy’ en ‘Drama Girl’ bewezen dat hij de kunst beheerst om op persoonlijke en creatieve wijze de existentiële zoektochten van zijn generatie weer kan geven. Afgelopen jaar is het derde werk van zijn millennial-­trilogie uitgekomen: ‘Future Me’. Waarin hij zelf voor de camera stapt. Zijn werk daagt kijkers uit om na te denken over de aard van waarheid en de subjectieve ervaring van realiteit. Tijdens deze avond in Lab111 krijg je de kans om meer te leren over de visie en werkwijze van Vincent. Hoe kiest hij zijn onderwerpen? Hoe balanceert hij tussen feit en fictie om zo een krachtig narratief te creëren? Wat inspireert hem om telkens weer nieuwe grenzen op te zoeken? Still-Alive Dinner is a living sculpture and participative performance designed to reconnect the audience with natural beings. Still-Alive Dinner is a living sculpture and participative performance designed to reconnect the audience with natural beings. Set in a greenhouse, it combines sculpture and performance, intermingling human and natural elements. Part of the Art Park II, Voice of Nature exhibition at Treehouse NDSM in Amsterdam Noord, it operates in two modes: as a sculpture, it offers an external sensory experience; as a performance, it invites 6 guests inside for a 45-minute ritual. Guided by a silent disco system, participants engage in meaningful actions, exploring themes of life, death, individuality, and collectivity, blurring boundaries between living and non-living, human and non-human. The performance will take 3 times at 15h, 16h and 17h. ABOUT THE MAKERS Jose Hopkins and Silvana Hurtado Dianderas are artists whose work blends interactive performance and fine arts to create immersive, participative experiences. Hopkins, a PhD candidate at Leiden University, focuses on posthumanism and participatory art. His background includes a BA in Fine Arts from Pontifical Catholic University of Peru and an MA in Arts and Society from Utrecht University. Dianderas, with an MFA in Scenography from HKU, specializes in interactive installations that invite active viewer participation. Together, they explore themes of interconnectedness, sustainability, and the human-nature relationship, challenging audiences to engage deeply with their environment through transformative artistic experiences. ABOUT ART PARK II: VOICE OF NATURE In an era marked by environmental crises and biodiversity loss, this exhibition serves as a platform to reframe our relationship with nature and advocate for its intrinsic value. Artists are encouraged to explore questions such as: How can we give a voice to nature? What would it mean to listen to what other species need? How can we create conditions that would allow us to truly cohabitate with nature in an urban space? In this multimedia lecture visitors will be guided through the fields, workshops and material cosmos of Japanese handmade paper. It is based on the recent publication 'Washi Futurism'. In 2019 design studio Cream on Chrome visited paper artisans in Japan, as artists in residence, and formed a lasting collaboration with the craftsmen So Kubota and Masaru Nishita. The team was joined by designers Satomi Minoshima and Pauline Agustoni, forming the collective 'Washi Futurism'. Their publication under the same name explores past, present and possible futures of the traditional Japanese paper ‘Sekishu Washi’. Saturday 21.
