Join Kathy Halper for her upcoming Artist Talk, "JOMO: The Joy of Missing Out," at the Evanston Art Center on Sunday, February 4th, from 2-3 pm. This engaging event showcases Halper's humorous and thought-provoking multimedia paintings and sculptures that celebrate her anti-social lifestyle. Through the use of craft materials, warped perspectives, and sculptured surfaces, Halper explores themes such as the daily boredom of long-term relationships, invasion of personal space by dogs, and our addiction to screens. With a refreshing sense of honesty, affection, and tongue-in-cheek awareness, Halper invites attendees to join her in embracing the joy of missing out. Her narrative paintings feature warped and forced perspectives, creating a sense of instability and chaos that paradoxically make sense. Using cardboard sourced from Amazon orders, glitter, embroidery thread, and various clays, Halper builds up her base surface, giving her artwork a three-dimensional quality. Objects often extend beyond the panel's edge, enhancing the overall visual impact. In addition, Halper embellishes bisque vases, adding a touch of whimsy and challenging traditional storytelling methods. This event is the perfect opportunity to engage with Halper's unique artistic vision. Don't miss out on this one-of-a-kind experience! Admission is free. The Artist Talk will take place at the Evanston Art Center, located at 1717 Central Street, Evanston, IL 60201.
