The title of this exhibition implies a sense of impermanence, a temporary occupation as well as a sense of care, to have and to hold is to cherish, to protect. As a master printmaker and self-taught weaver, Alexis Neal (Ngāti Awa, Te Ātiawa) is drawn to artefacts and the narratives they hold. Her artistic practice brings these artefacts into the light, inviting them to collaborate and inspire, to offer a voice to be woven into a contemporary context of knowledge. Neal’s practice brings life to taonga tuku iho (treasure handed down) reminding us that these taonga are vessels, holding history, holding space.

She knew a few chords so she flipped through the book, playing whatever songs she could manage to play. The owner of the guitar came out and said, I can give you the guitar, but the songbook isn't mine, so I have to take that with me, sorry. Despite her objection that it was too generous a gift from a stranger, the man said, God told me to give it you, please - it's yours. And with that, Miss Elizabeth had been called to a lifelong journey of songwriting. Cathy's music stayed firmly in the closet for a while; sharing it felt far too vulnerable. But as the call of music grew stronger, and Cathy grew in confidence, she began to perform more and more in public. Songs are written to be heard, after all. Starting from open mic nights, it wasn't long before she was getting booked for solo performances. Inspired by the likes of Jeff Buckley, Thom Yorke, Aldous Harding, and PJ Harvey, Cathy's music has more of a folk-rock edge than a finger-picked indie style. Writing became an excellent tool by which to process difficult emotions, so a lot of the subject matter goes deep and dark, but other material explores spiritual concepts, with a joyful, uplifting vibe. Also going by the moniker 'Rain', Cathy has found the experience of being a singer-songwriter, including putting a band around her music and all of the delicate and challenging interactions that go with that, has been hugely character building overall. Wear comfortable cloths. Bring a set of dry clothes as you will probably get sweaty during the session. We dance barefoot, in soft indoor shoes or grip socks. What time we start? Door open at 6:45pm. We start with stretch and slow music before opening circle. We politely ask not to come earlier as we have to prepare a room. We close door at 7:15pm sharp! Where is the venue? Venue is based in Queens Hotel and Spa Bournemouth ,Meyrick Road,Bournemouth - BH1 3DL What is your refound policy? We do not offer refunds/ticket swaps for another event if you cannot attend if less than 72h notice if provided. You are welcome to pass on your ticket to a friend, colleague or family member however please let us know the date & time of the booked session, name and email address of the person. Can I bring children to event? Unfortunately these sessions are not suitable for children. And children are not able to stay in the venue during the session. Drug-Free, Smoke-Free, Alcohol-Free environment 2 . No talking in the dance space. If you wish to talk, you are welcome to chat before/after dance outside the main dance space and during our social after. 3 . Phone-free zone. No photos or videos.A chance for us to take a breather from our phones and be present. 4 . Respect for each other's personal space. 5 . Dance Barefoot. This helps us ground our energy and brings us closer in connection to mother earth. You can wear soft soled trainers/shoes or socks if you feel more comfortable doing so.
