Running
The Pendine Races, held on Pendine Sands Beach in Carmarthen, Wales, offer a variety of running options for participants. Whether you're interested in the 5k, 10k, Half Marathon, or Full Marathon, there's a race for everyone. The courses are designed to make the most of the beautiful beachside setting, with the 5k and 10k routes taking place on the beach itself, and the Half and Full Marathons incorporating a mix of beach and quiet lanes. It's worth noting that all races are Cup-Free, so participants are required to bring their own re-useable cup. The Full Marathon consists of a double loop along the full length of the beach, while the Half Marathon follows a single loop of the same course. The 10k and 5k races are out-and-back routes along the beach, with a clearly marked turning point. Running on the sand may sound challenging, but at Pendine, the firm sands make it an ideal surface for both regular and barefoot running. Start times for the races will be confirmed closer to the event date, as they are dependent on the tide-tables provided by the Pendine Beach Warden. Water stations will be available along the courses, with three for the Half and Full Marathon runners and two for the 5k and 10k participants. Parking is available at the pay and display carpark near Barnacles Cafe, and race numbers can be collected on the day of the event. If you're unable to attend the race, please note that registrations are non-refundable, but entry transfers or deferrals can be arranged up to four weeks before the event. Walkers are welcome to participate, although there are time limits of 4 hours for the Half Marathon and 7 hours for the Full Marathon. Participants must be at least 16 years old for the Half Marathon and 18 years old for the Marathon. If you're interested in volunteering, please contact the organizers. There's also an opportunity to run for free by raising money for the preferred charity. Entry fees range from £29 for the 5k and 10k races to £45 for the Full Marathon, with discounts available for group bookings. Prizes will be awarded to the top male and female runners in each race category, and all finishers will receive a bespoke Pendine medal. To ensure the smooth running of the event, participants must complete the Half Marathon within 4 hours and the Full Marathon within 7 hours.
