The Lifeguard Certification Course - Shallow Water, up to 5 ft (Aberdeen) is designed for individuals who wish to become certified lifeguards. This course equips participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively prevent, recognize, and respond to aquatic emergencies. It also provides training on how to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries, and sudden illnesses until professional medical services arrive. This Blended Learning course combines online learning with in-person classroom and swimming pool skills training. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive an American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding (Shallow Water, up to 5 ft)/First Aid/CPR/AED, which is valid for 2 years. To be eligible for this course, candidates must be at least 15 years old by the final scheduled session. They must also be able to swim 100 yards continuously with proper breath control and rhythmic breathing. Treading water for 2 minutes using only the legs is another prerequisite. Additionally, candidates must complete a timed event that involves swimming, submerging to a depth of 7 to 10 feet, and retrieving a 10-pound object. The course will take place at the Aberdeen Amenity Center Pool in St. Johns, FL. It will be held from April 26 to April 28. The instructor, Tukz Taaca, has over 25 years of experience in aquatic safety and has taught lifeguard certification courses for various organizations.
