Jarman's only work of narrative fiction, this book is 'a literary fairytale acid-trip road movie hybrid'. Written in 1971, in the context of the then emerging ecological crisis, the book provides a unique juxtaposition of the beauty of nature with the reckless consumption of modernity. Using theses themes of consumption and ecology, and in the caseLiliane Puthod's Beep Beep, the road-trip, the book offers an entry in which to discuss the exhibitions of Longest Way Round, Shortest Way Home. Longest Way Round, Shortest Way Home presents two off-site solo exhibitions by Yuri Pattison and Liliane Puthod at the Pumphouse, Dublin Port. dream sequence by Yuri Pattison simulates the subconscious somatic, and psychological dream state, as well as how environmental shifts can influence the perception of reality. The work is an analogy of virtual metaverses and a transgressive escape from a hostile world. Liliane Puthod's Beep Beep consolidates her research on handmade and mechanised production, commodity fetishism, and the archaeology of consumerism through reanimating her late-father's Renault 4. This large-scale immersive artwork is a culmination of a road trip from her home town in France to the exhibitions at Dublin Port. The event will start with a brief tour of each exhibition, followed by a group discussion, led by Sadbh O’Brien (TBG+S). The discussion will focus on the various shared concepts and thematic approaches between Jarman's Through The Billboard Promised Land Without Ever Stopping and each of artists' exhibitions. In advance of the event, participants will be sent information including an extract from the book, although reading the book in full is encouraged. A limited number of copies are available for the unwaged. Please contact TBG+S Learning + Public Engagement Curator Órla Goodwin to request a copy. orla@templebargallery.com +353 (0)1 671 0073 Information Source: Temple Bar Gallery + Studios | eventbrite

This nighttime event will unfold with two experimental performances by Ingrid Lyons and Metaxu. The original Pumphouse will be transformed through atmospheric soundscapes and visual installation drifting on Beep Beep’s motifs of transient journey, passage of time and mechanical dreams. CKD* refers to the term used to describe factory-made cars being dismantled and sent overseas for reassembly. Itinerary, itinerary…itinéraire is a soundscape comprising compositions and musings. By collaging aural footage (originally recorded on a twitch live stream), and musical interludes on zither and fiddle, this accompanying performance considers the artificer Daedalus in greek mythology and his labyrinth as an embodiment of the Hero’s Journey narrative trope. Through her fiddle playing, Ingrid Lyons uncovers the rich heritage of Irish creativity, poetry and oral storytelling, while remaining close to the exceptional fiddle players who have personally mentored her. Metaxu presents with special guests Gweyn, Asa Nice Masa, Thom Dehli, a collaborative musical navigation, traversing conscious and subconscious territories through guitars, motors, voice, light and smoke. Metaxupresents with special guests Gweyn, Asa Nice Masa, Thom Dehli, a collaborative musical navigation, traversing conscious and subconscious territories through guitars, motors, voice, light and smoke. Metaxu seeks to bring audiences and artists in Dublin together, through experimental music, into unfamiliar and lesser frequented performance spaces and settings, specific for their materiality encompassing acoustic qualities as well as social possibilities. Ingrid Lyonslives and works in Dublin and writes about contemporary art and culture. Lyons frequently contributes publications including the Visual Artists’ News Sheet, Mirror Lamp Press and Irish Arts Review. Lyons wishes to develop and distil a writing practice that includes fictional literature and immersive research practices such as collecting oral narratives and musical collaboration to complement more traditional academic research methodologies. Liliane Puthod's practice often takes the form of large-scale installations and sculptures using both handmade and industrial materials as a way to confront archaeological and commodified times. She appropriates and manipulates some of society’s existing modes of dissemination, display and production to subtly destabilize what she considers the fabrication of desire and subjectivity in relation to objecthood. Investigating the temporality of everyday life’s consumption, her work questions its perceived value within our globalised world. Beep Beep is part of Longest Way Round, Shortest Way Home, two off-site solo exhibitions by Yuri Pattison and Liliane Puthod at The Pumphouse, Dublin Port. The exhibitions are produced and curated by Temple Bar Gallery + Studios, in partnership with Dublin Port Company. This public event is supported by The Arts Council of Ireland Project Award. Moving Pictures: reusing cinemas as places of worship in the diaspora. Date: 26th November 2024, 18:00 Location: Zoroastrian Centre for Europe, 440 Alexandra Ave, Rayners Lane, Harrow HA2 9TL As part of the London Migration Film Festival (LMFF), you are warmly invited to Moving Pictures, an expanded film performance, artist talk, and panel discussion at the Zoroastrian Centre, formerly the Ace Cinema in Rayners Lane, Harrow. Funded by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), this project examines the adaptive reuse of cinemas as places of worship by diaspora communities. Using the artistic methodology of site-integrity (developed in 2017), the project actively involves the faith community in the creative process, generating grassroots perspectives. A custom-designed filming and playback device captures religious practices from the congregation’s viewpoint. Drawing inspiration from early cinema, particularly the Lumière Brothers' Cinématographe, the films are projected back into the site with the same device, maintaining the exact scale and time as the image maps onto the architectural space. The project is funded by the RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) and led by artist filmmaker Julie Marsh and architectural historian Kate Jordan at the University of Westminster. This event partners with CREAM (Centre for Research and Education in Arts and Media) and HOMELandS (Hub on Migration, Exile, Languages and Spaces). For more information about the Moving Pictures project please see: https://moving-pictures.info/ For information about the artist Julie Marsh please see: https://www.site-integrity.com/ There will be refreshments served (doors open at 5:50pm) Information Source: eventbrite
