This month's line-up features some of the absolute best acts on the circuit: Russell Hicks, Jon Long, Michael May, and host Lyle Barke! Jon Long is a stand up and musical comedian. His cheery and affable stage presence and host of acerbic comedy songs have seen him become a favourite on the London live circuit, performing and hosting at the capital’s most established clubs such as: Angel Comedy, Top Secret, and The Comedy Store, as well as all round the UK and Europe. Jon has been a frequent visitor to the Edinburgh Fringe, hosting the prestigious AAA Showcase at The Pleasance in 2018, and in 2019 making his critically acclaimed Edinburgh Fringe solo-show debut with ‘Planet Killing Machine’ produced by Mick Perrin Worldwide. Following the success of ‘Planet Killing Machine’ Jon developed the show for BBC Radio 4, and in 2021, ‘Extinction Compendium’ (written and presented by Jon) made its very first broadcast. Jon has since recorded and broadcast three further episodes for Radio 4, titled ‘Carbon Lifeforms’ alongside climate scientist Dr. Tara Shine. About Barely Wearable: Barely Wearablecontinues Ruth Downes’ passion for reappropriating everyday materials and objects to celebrate their intrinsic beauty. Materials for these ‘wearable’ artworks have been gleaned from a diverse range of sources – from aircraft headsets to coffee capsules. Detritus from nature has also been salvaged to be re-born as a fashion statement. By reimagining these materials, Downes’ has created works that transcend their utilitarian function, castingthem in a fresh light. The works question our accepted values and how we award status by projecting these everyday materials into the realm of art. About Re|Purpose: Some of the most fascinating objects in our Museum have stories that are a little unexpected. These objects don’t tell us stories about important historical events, they tell us about the everyday lives of people and the clever and sometimes humorous way they ‘made do’ – recycling, upcycling and repurposing old materials and objects into something new and useful once more.
