Every year in mid-August, the town of Waki ​​in Okayama Prefecture hosts the "Wa" Character Fireworks Festival along the Yoshii River. At Yoshii River Park, giant flames are lit on the hillside, forming the Chinese character "和" (symbolizing harmony and Japan), approximately 75 meters wide and 65 meters high. This event is inspired by Kyoto's famous "Daimonji-yaki" (large character yaki), but incorporates local characteristics. After the large character is lit, thousands of fireworks illuminate the sky above the river, creating a spectacular display of flames and colors. This festival is held annually on August 16th, attracting local residents and tourists to experience this unique tradition. People typically gather on the riverbed to watch the shimmering "倭" (Wa) character pattern gradually unfold, followed by a dazzling fireworks display. The event runs from 6:45 PM to 9:30 PM. The Japanese character light show begins at 8 PM, and the fireworks display takes place from 8:30 PM to 9 PM.

The fireworks festival held in Maniwa City, Okayama Prefecture, is one of the largest in northern Okayama Prefecture. The event began in 1932 (Showa 7) as a form of customer service by local businesses and will celebrate its 80th anniversary in 2026. Approximately 2,500 fireworks and various other light displays will illuminate the night sky, creating a spectacular display of light effects.

The largest fireworks display in Okayama Prefecture took place in the night sky over Tsuyama City. The theme for 2026 was "Dream Factory ~Let's Draw Dreams Together~". Activities included: the Kongo Dance, fireworks displays, festival stalls, a haunted house, and more. On the second night of the event, a spectacular fireworks display lit up the night sky over the Yoshii River, with approximately 8,300 fireworks illuminating the night. At the Yoshii Riverside Green Park, the event's venue, various fireworks, including starburst fireworks and large aerial shells, were launched in rhythm, creating a dynamic spectacle in the night sky. The fireworks display featured a wide variety of types, including starburst fireworks and 4-inch aerial shells launched continuously in sync with the rhythm, as well as brand-new colored fireworks inspired by the Yoshii River. Before the fireworks display, you could also enjoy a Tsurumaru Taiko drum performance, creative dances, and live music by artists.

The Hinase Port Festival is a major summer event in Bizen City, Okayama Prefecture. Fireworks are launched from the center of the harbor in front of Hinase Station, ensuring a spectacular view from anywhere within the harbor. Approximately 2,500 fireworks illuminate the sea with vibrant colors. Visitors can enjoy both the beauty of the ground-based fireworks and the awe-inspiring aerial displays. Food trucks, stalls, and stage performances further enhance the festive atmosphere. The fireworks launched from the sea are truly spectacular, their explosions echoing among the surrounding mountains and islands, while the shimmering fireworks floating on the water create a dreamlike atmosphere. Before the fireworks display, you can also enjoy exciting stage performances, such as dance performances and Shinkuro taiko drumming.

The Kasaoka Festival is a major summer event in Kasaoka City, with its core activity being the fireworks display. "Nocturne Night" is held in front of JR Kasaoka Station and along the prefectural government street, where people dance to the "Kasaoka Nocturne." In addition, the "Kasaoka City Karaoke League Championship" and the "Shopping Street Festival" are also held. The fireworks display at the Kasaoka Festival is the most popular in Okayama Prefecture, taking place from Sumiyoshi Port to Fushikoshi Port, with fireworks launched from the eastern breakwater of the Kasaoka Bay reclamation area. The dense bursts of sparklers and the largest fireworks display in the Chugoku region create a spectacular scene. Approximately 5,500 fireworks are launched simultaneously.
