Arts
Join the USC Glorya Kaufman School of Dance in celebrating the 50th anniversary of Hip Hop and its global impact on dance at the Hip Hop 50 - Celebrating Hip Hop Dance Scholarship event. This festival is a three-part series of panels, workshops, and dancing, showcasing the rich scholarship, archives, culture, and practice of Hip Hop.
The first event in this series, taking place on September 20, 2023, will feature a musical essay by DJ Lynnée Denise, renowned for her DJ Scholarship movement that redefines the role of the DJ as an archivist and cultural custodian. Following that, a Hip Hop scholarship panel will celebrate the publication of the Oxford Handbook of Hip Hop Dance Studies, with esteemed editors Imani Kai Johnson and Mary Fogarty in conversation with USC Kaufman professors E. Moncell Durden and Naomi Bragin.
After the panel, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in Hip Hop dance workshops, open to all, where they can learn and experience the infectious energy of Hip Hop dance.
Don't miss this chance to be part of a festival that not only commemorates the birth of Hip Hop but also celebrates its global influence on dance.
