Join the Center for Photography at Woodstock (CPW) every Thursday evening for enlightening talks with local and visiting artists. On Thursday, September 21, Maureen Drennan and Sara Macel will be featured at the "Meet the Artist" event at CPW in Kingston, New York. Drennan will showcase her project and book, "Meet Me in the Green Glen," a captivating photographic exploration of a secluded marijuana grower in California. Over the course of nine years, Drennan documented this reclusive individual as the laws and perceptions surrounding marijuana cultivation underwent significant transformations in the state. Macel will present her latest body of work, "What Did the Deep Sea Say," which combines contemporary color film images with family black-and-white photographs to weave a narrative about women from different generations in her own family. Macel will also share rarely seen book dummies from her projects and delve into the process of uncovering universal themes within deeply personal work and translating them into photobooks. Books by both artists will be available for purchase. The event offers the opportunity for the public to engage with new art, gain insights into the artistic process, and connect with fellow art enthusiasts. The event is free and open to the public, taking place at CPW's gallery on 474 Broadway in Kingston. Coffee, tea, and snacks will be served. This event is made possible by the generous support of the Arnold and Augusta Newman Foundation. Maureen Drennan, a New York City-based photographer, has exhibited her work at prestigious institutions such as the Museum of the City of New York and the National Portrait Gallery. Her photographs have been featured in esteemed publications including The Atlantic and The New York Times. Drennan also teaches photography at LaGuardia Community College. Sara Macel is a Queens-based photographer who has achieved international recognition for her work exploring themes of memory, family, and place. Notably, Macel has been named one of PDN's 30 Photographers to Watch and received the Aaron Siskind Foundation Fellowship. Her monographs include "May the Road Rise to Meet You," "Kiss & Tell," and "What Did the Deep Sea Say." Macel is also the Program Coordinator for the photography degree program at SUNY Rockland CC. The Kids Creativity Club is a free family artmaking program designed specifically for children aged 10 and under. Hosted at the Tett Centre for Creativity and Learning in Kingston, Ontario, this drop-in program offers a range of hands-on creative arts activities facilitated by local artists and volunteers.
