To celebrate the start of summer, this unique festival draws inspiration from ancient Gaelic traditions and the historic Beltaine festival. Edinburgh's residents dance pagan and elemental dances, while a dazzling fire show entertains over 12,000 spectators that evening. Also note the diverse cast of characters, such as the majestic Queen of May and the Red Crescents, who lend the festivities an otherworldly atmosphere. It's as if the creatures of Pan's Labyrinth, weary of Spain, have come to Scotland for a holiday, shedding their clothes along the way, and thus becoming bolder and more fearless.
