Junetsuki is a series of summer festivals held in various shrines and temples throughout the prefecture during the month of July (June on the old calendar), each held on a day designated by the shrine or temple itself. Junggetsu-do has a long history and continues to be a successful seasonal event in Kagoshima during the summer. In the grounds of the shrines and temples, lanterns made of sticks and Japanese paper are strung along rope nets with various illustrations and messages on them. There are also many shops along the roadside. These shops, the atmosphere of the shrines and temples, and the lanterns together create a very dreamy, magical atmosphere. In Kagoshima City, these festivals take place almost every evening in July and continue until the end of the month. Please enjoy "Summer in Kagoshima" at the Junggetsu-do Lantern Festival! The "Terikuni Shrine Junggetsu Festival" held on July 15th and 16th every year is one of the largest June festivals in Kagoshima Prefecture.

Kanoya City’s signature summer event, the Kanoya Natsumi Festival, will return in 2025! The “So-odori” dance is a spectacular spectacle of more than 2,000 yukata-clad dancers parading through the city streets to lively Hanya-bushi music, full of energy and power. At the climax of the festival, approximately 3,000 fireworks will be launched from three locations around the city, lighting up the night sky.
