Kubo Sadajiro was an art critic who was committed to the reform of children's art education and the support of artists. From 1959, he taught the "Children's Art" and "Art Appreciation" courses at the Azumi Gakuen Junior College. In 1967, he became the head of the Living Art Department and served as the president of the junior college from 1977 to 1985. Due to his charming personality, he was still loved by students after his retirement in 1987.
While studying at the Graduate School of Tokyo Imperial University, Kubo Sadajiro visited Miyazaki as a special envoy of the Japanese Esperanto Society and met Sugita Hideo (later Eikyu) and established a friendship. He also met many artists of his time through Eikyu and provided external support when Eikyu and others established the "Democraft Artists Association". In 1952, he co-founded the "Creative Aesthetic Education Association" with Eikyu, Kitagawa Tamichi, and others, and actively promoted the creative art education movement for elementary and middle school students.
Since 1956, he has initiated the "Little Colectur Movement" and has been committed to the popularization of fine arts and the support of artists. He particularly values "prints" that can be produced multiple times, encouraging artists to create prints and providing production assistance. The prints of artists discovered by Kubo have gradually received high acclaim internationally. At the same time, his contribution to modern prints has also been widely recognized, and in 1986 he became the first director of the Machida City International Print Museum.
As an art critic, educator, patron, and collector, Kubo Teijiro has many titles. This exhibition will display works centered on prints, focusing on his various activities and exchanges with artists he supports.
