Set against the backdrop of Southern Song Dynasty's Lin'an, the play transports audiences into a martial arts world where reality and illusion intertwine.
Breaking from traditional theater formats, "The Dreamlike World of Jianghu" shatters the fourth wall, allowing audiences to freely roam ancient streets and teahouses in Hanfu attire while interacting closely with performers and even influencing the storyline. The production incorporates intangible cultural heritage elements like Yue opera movements, guqin performances, and Song dynasty-style tea ceremonies, enhanced by holographic projections and surround sound to create an immersive "wandering through a painting" experience.
The play revolves around the themes of "love" and "loyalty," depicting the emotional entanglements of martial arts heroes in turbulent times. Audiences may become sworn companions to the protagonists or passing guests at the inn—each person will gain a unique theatrical experience.
