This nomadic research initiative, led by Anicka Yi, aims to break disciplinary boundaries and shape the radical present by cultivating collective action in the face of 21st-century paradigm shifts. In collaboration with Stanford Arts, Metaspore will be hosting a full day of visionary conversations, embodied performances, and community activities. The goal is to go beyond mere knowledge production and instead focus on being fully present together, inviting meaningful connections, and shifting away from conventional thinking towards radical breakthroughs. The Metaspore Symposium 2023 will mark the culmination of Anicka Yi's year-long residency through Stanford Arts. During this residency, she explored Metaspore's research areas alongside a group of student fellows in her spring course, Metaspore: The Networked Sensorium. This course, co-taught with Stanford arts faculty Miguel Novelo, delved into strategies for addressing significant planetary changes by strengthening our connection to our senses and questioning our previous conditioning. The symposium will feature an interdisciplinary constellation of speakers, including artists, scientists, writers, and scholars. They will engage in thought-provoking discussions on various topics, such as race, gender, technology, biology, and more. Organized by Anicka Yi Studio in partnership with Four One Nine, the symposium will be held at Four One Nine, a creative studio and agency that fosters community, culture, art, and technology in the heart of San Francisco. Join us at the Metaspore Symposium 2023: The Networked Sensorium to explore the intersection of art, science, and sensory experiences and be part of the conversation that reshapes our understanding of the world.
