Level 2 Bikeability - Lakeside Leisure Centre is offering free cycle safety training for North Tyneside residents. This training aims to enhance participants' cycling skills, from understanding the fundamentals of balance and control to planning and completing short journeys on today's busy roads. Conducted by fully qualified and DBS checked instructors from Sport North Tyneside, the training is available for small groups aged 8-14 years. To participate, individuals must have a bike in a safe and roadworthy condition, equipped with both functional brakes, and a safety helmet. It is essential that children can ride independently without stabilizers. Packed lunches are required for the session. The training will cover a range of crucial skills, including navigating roads, making u-turns, identifying and reacting to hazards, and signaling intentions to other road users. Participants will also learn where to ride on the road, how to use junctions, and understand the benefits of cycle lanes. Familiarity with the Highway Code and road signs will also be emphasized. Upon successful completion of the training, attendees will receive both a badge and certificate. It is important to note that instructors are required to assess participants' competency in Level 1 training outcomes before progressing to Level 2. Each training session can accommodate up to 6 individuals, and participants only need to book one date as the program remains the same throughout. A confirmation form will be sent upon booking, and completion of this form is necessary to secure the reservation.
