The Sapporo Lilac Festival began in 1959, initiated by a cultural figure. In 1960, the lilac was chosen as the official tree of Sapporo, becoming a familiar symbol to its citizens. Today, the festival has become a representative spring event in Sapporo's early summer. Odori Venue (Odori Nishi 5-7-chome): Wednesday, May 20, 2026 to Sunday, May 31, 2026 (12 days). Odori Venue 5-chome: May 20, 2026 to May 24, 2026 (5 days). Kawashita Venue (Kawashita Park, Shiroishi Ward, Sapporo): May 30 and 31, 2026 (2 days). At the Odori Venue, approximately 400 lilac trees are in bloom, and events such as a music festival, a wine garden, and a stamp rally are held. The Kawashita venue offers a variety of activities, including a lilac flower tour and concerts. For Sapporo residents, this festival marks the end of the long winter and the beginning of the outdoor activity season.

Yosakoi Soran Festival is a folk dance festival held in Sapporo, Hokkaido. The festival brings together 1,000 strong teams of performers dressed in brightly coloured costumes and exaggerated make-up, who perform along the streets of Odori Park during the day and move to the park's main stage at night for further performances. The dance combines traditional elements such as naruko clapping and original "fishermen's harvest dance" folk songs, but with a modern twist and a more rhythmic feel that draws crowds to the show.

At 19:45 on August 1, 2026, Hakodate Port's Green Island hosted a unique fireworks extravaganza—the "167th Anniversary of Hakodate's Opening to the Sea: The 71st Hokkaido Fireworks Festival." As night slowly descended over Hokkaido Bay, a giant cluster of fireworks soared into the sky, followed by a series of six acts of fireworks, from wide star trails to waterfalls of fire in the water, each explosion creating golden ripples in the harbor's reflection. In an instant, city lights intertwined with the fireworks, adorning the ancient port city in a dazzling spectacle.

The 2026 Takino Fireworks Festival will be held on June 20th, bringing you fireworks, music, and delicious food. The event will take place in the scenic Takino Suzuran Hill National Park on the outskirts of Sapporo, featuring spectacular fireworks and music that will infuse Hokkaido with energy and brilliance! "Sky Art" is a fireworks display synchronized with music. The fireworks are launched under computer control, with the launch time accurate to 1/30th of a second. By taking into account flight time and afterglow, the fireworks are perfectly synchronized with the rhythm, melody, instruments, lyrics, vocals, and the performance location.
