York Lantern Festival · Celebrating Chinese New Year Together | York
Feb 14, 2026 (UTC)
York
Celebration
On February 14, 2026, York will be illuminated by red lanterns, Hanfu (traditional Han clothing), and lion dances—the excitement isn't just in your imagination, it's a real-life spectacle. Two lions, one red and one yellow, will appear together, and the moment the drums start, the entire street will heat up. Two drummers will provide live support, creating an incredibly catchy rhythm that will "wake up" passersby and draw them in. The parade of Hanfu and other traditional Chinese costumes on the cobblestone streets of York truly feels like stepping into a "time-travel movie." Many British adults and children will be taking photos by the roadside, cheering when they see the lions—a particularly cute and heartwarming scene. **Trip Checkpoints:** 13:15 York Theatre Royal | Meeting Point & Lion Dance Warm-up 13:30 York Minster | Parade Begins 13:40 Minstergate | Hanfu Display 13:45 Stonegate | Street Interaction 14:00 Parliament Street | Lion Dance & Folk Custom Display 14:10 Feasegate | Audience Interaction Available 14:20 Coney Street | Continue to the End Point 14:30 St Helen’s Square | End and Group Photo **Trip Route Overview:** York Theatre Royal → York Minster → Minstergate → Stonegate → Parliament Street → Feasegate → Coney Street → St Helen’s Square

Arts
Al Murray's stand-up comedy show "All You Need Is Guv!" is coming to York Barbican on February 13, 2026 at 7:30 PM. As one of Britain's most renowned comedians, Al Murray is famous for his iconic "pub landlord" persona created in 1994. This beloved character has earned him countless fans and established him among Britain's greatest stand-up comedians.
This performance continues his signature style of character comedy and political satire, featuring the down-to-earth persona of a "tavern owner" who delivers witty, common-sense commentary on current social issues, offering audiences a humorous antidote to life's frustrations. The show also includes an "interactive splash zone" where attendees will receive raincoats and souvenir lanyards for immersive participation. The venue is conveniently located on Paragon Street. Given his previous sold-out tours, this is a must-see event for comedy fans in York.

Legend - The Music of Bob Marley | York Barbican
Feb 12, 2026 (UTC)
York
Concerts
York, UK · "Legend - The Music of Bob Marley" Tribute Concert. The York Barbican Centre will transform into a Caribbean-style club: as the drums begin, brass and keyboards intertwine in the intro of "No Woman No Cry," with the audience's phone lights swaying to the chorus. The upbeat melody of "Three Little Birds" follows, instantly filling the winter night with Jamaican sunshine. Through the lead singer's powerfully raspy vocals, the soulful call-and-response of the backing vocalists, and live LED screen footage of 1970s documentaries, the performance transports the audience to the streets and stages of Kingston. Midway through, classics like "Buffalo Soldier" and "Redemption Song" are featured, with the band extending the outro improvisationally, inviting the audience to stand, clap, and sing along. The grand finale, "One Love," unites the crowd in a chorus, building to a climax of love and peace. The York stop includes a special "Reggae Love Songs" segment on Valentine's Eve, adding a romantic touch. Whether you're a longtime fan or a first-time listener, these two hours will reignite the courage and hope Bob Marley conveyed through his music, making the winter night blaze with reggae warmth.
