In this fun and low-pressure class, we will be handbuilding our artwork, and the world is your oyster! You will learn some simple techniques for making a cup or bowl, and handbuilding a sculpture, and then you can make whatever you find exciting! Please note that this class includes one glazing evening during open studio Wednesday evening, in which you can finish up your piece. Visitors have the option of having their piece glazed and shipped to them for an additional $30 (cash or check on the day of class). In this two-part class, we will explore the world of traditional woodblock printing. Students will become familiar with the tools and techniques used in this process, including press-based printing, and printing at home without a press. Students will print a block they have carved using the Alchemy printing press. Creative ways of adding color to printed work will also be disucssed in this class. Embrace the unique look of woodblock printing, and learn how to continue your print journey either at home or using the specialized equipment at Alchemy. No previous printmaking experience necessary. This class is taught by Alchemy print studio manager and printmaker Katey Rissi. Class meets on Saturday, 1/11 and Saturday 1/18 from 3-6pm, with an opportunity for students to attend our Wednesday Open Studios if they'd like to. Make your own tiles for your home using techniques used by tilemakers in Spain and Portugal. During this class students will have an opportunity to work with Majolica glaze to make painted tiles for a backsplash, address plaque, or other applications. Majolica is a special type of low-fire glaze, traditionally used in Portugal and Spain. Unlike other glazes, it works like paint and can be used for detailed painting applications!
