Join Ann and Tony Gengarelly at the Workshop: Poetry and Art from The Poetry Studio, held at the Brattleboro Museum & Art Center in Brattleboro, VT on November 5, 2023. This exciting event invites young people aged 9 to 14 to unleash their authentic voices through the power of poetry. Ann Gengarelly, the esteemed director of The Poetry Studio in Marlboro, Vermont, believes that everyone has poetry within them, waiting to be heard. By exploring their own creativity and witnessing the work of others, participants will develop compassion and empathy.
During the workshop, Ann will introduce a theme, guiding participants to find inspiration for their writing by exploring the museum's diverse collection of art and sculpture. Additionally, Tony Gengarelly, professor emeritus of Fine Arts at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, will facilitate visual artmaking, providing participants with a well-rounded creative experience. All materials will be provided for this engaging session.
Ann Gengarelly brings a wealth of experience, having directed The Poetry Studio for 25 years, offering after-school programs for students in kindergarten through eighth grade. The studio is known for its summer workshops, which combine poetry, art, and bookmaking, with a special focus on the natural world. Since 2002, Ann has also taught creative writing classes for adults. Tony Gengarelly, with his expertise in American civilization, art history, literature, and more, has been teaching visual art and bookmaking for The Poetry Studio's summer workshops since 1999.
