Learn more about the benefits of rain barrels, and purchase a recycled, food grade-plastic rain barrel for your property. (Q/A afterward) To purchase a rain barrel (or barrels), use the "Get tickets" button and then the Eventbrite "Purchase rain barrel(s)" add-on to order and pay for barrels. Purchase orders must be completed prior to the workshop (as noted in the add-on). To purchase after the class, please email request information to reportpollution@scgov.net, with the subject line as "Rain Barrel." ----- During this class you will learn how the use of rain barrels can conserve water, save money by reducing the use of potable water in landscapes (lower utility bills), and reduce stormwater runoff by storing and diverting runoff from impervious surfaces (like roofs). Practical tips on the construction and installation of rain barrels will be provided. After the workshop, we will have a Q/A session with the instructor, our Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ community educator, and a Sarasota County Air & Water Quality representative. Bring any questions you might have concerning UF/IFAS Extension or the environment. Please register for this event ONLY at ufsarasotaext.eventbrite.com rather than any third-party websites, as they are not affiliated with our classes and events. --- Note: Each rain barrel is made of recycled, food grade-plastic barrel, holds up to 55 gallons, and measures 2 feet in diameter and 3 feet tall. Barrels ordered prior to the workshop will be available for pickup until 11:30 a.m. the day of the workshop. If you are unable to pick up your barrel(s) on the day of the workshop, or if you decide after the workshop to purchase a barrel, please email reportpollution@scgov.net , with the subject line as "Rain Barrel." --- For questions or further information, please call 941-861-5000 or email sarasota@ifas.ufl.edu . Reversals & Rotations: Sol LeWitt's Print Strategies Opening Day Talk: David S. Areford Reversals & Rotations: Sol LeWitt's Print Strategies Join guest curator David Areford as he explores the prints of American artist Sol LeWitt (1928-2007). When LeWitt began pursuing printmaking in 1970, he quickly homed in on the medium's inherent technical and mechanical properties that best served his approach to conceptual art. Two print-specific characteristics were especially productive —reversal and rotation. LeWitt employed these strategically to achieve a range of meanings and effects, from clever references to Italian Renaissance art to dynamic activations of pictorial space. About David S. Areford David S. Areford is professor of art history at the University of Massachusetts Boston. He is the editor of Locating Sol LeWitt (2021) and the author of Strict Beauty: Sol LeWitt Prints (2020), as well as books and essays on fifteenth-century European printmaking and devotional art. Put the art world in focus with Art on Film at SAM Put the art world in focus with Art on Film at SAM. Join us for award-winning documentaries, short films, and biopics that highlight some of our favorite artists, reveal untold histories, and explore what it takes to make it as an artist today. Each screening will include opportunities for discussion and connection among audience members. Hieronymus Bosch: Touched by the Devil (2016) Directed by Pieter van Huystee Running Time: 89 minutes In 2016, the Noordbrabants Museum in the Dutch city of Den Bosch held a special exhibition devoted to the work of Hieronymus Bosch, who died 500 years ago. This late-medieval artist lived his entire life in the city, causing uproar with his fantastical and utterly unique paintings in which hell and the devil always played a prominent role. In preparation for the exhibition, a team of Dutch art historians crisscrosses the globe to unravel the secrets of his art. They use special infrared cameras to examine the sketches beneath the paint, in the hope of discovering more about the artist's intentions. They also attempt to establish which of the paintings can be attributed with certainty to Bosch himself, and which to his pupils or followers. The experts shuttle between Den Bosch, Madrid and Venice, cutting their way through the art world's tangle of red tape, in a battle against the obstacle of countless egos and conflicting interests. Not every museum is prepared to allow access to their precious art works. Information Source: Sarasota Art Museum | eventbrite
