A series of 4 autism workshops for parents/carers of autistic people (aged 13 & Above) to help support & understand their young person. Are you finding it hard to support your young person in areas such as education, work, leaving the house and socialising? Autus are offering a course of 4 workshops toparent/Carers of autistic teenagers (13+)/young adults. Over the 4 sessions we will be focusing on: Anxiety – how it can manifest as shutdown How to communicate without pressure Barriers to making change Looking into reasons behind behaviour How to help find motivation If you are worried about how your young person will manage as they are getting older, this course aims to develop your understanding and provide you with strategies to help support them.The series of four workshops run on the following dates: Wed 13th May Wed 20th May Half Term Break Wed 3rd June Wed 10th June Please let us know if you have any support or accessibility needs for during the session. Join our resident photographer for a wildlife photography for beginners workshop. Join Sean Jones Photography at Staveley Nature Reserve for this introductory workshop on wildlife photography. This half day course will give you a basic understanding of how best to capture wildlife on camera. Your guide will talk you through composition, light, technique and using your equipment as you take in the wonderful wetland surroundings of this thriving nature reserve. Image credit: Sean Jones What to bring/wear Your own camera and equipment will be required for this workshop. You may also wish to bring binoculars. This event takes place outside so brace yourself for the Yorkshire weather! We'd recommend sturdy and waterproof footwear. Toilets and catering There are no toilets at this nature reserve and no catering facilities. You're welcome to bring a drink and/or snack with you but please take your litter home with you. The Engineering Open House Day is back yet again this year on August 7th. Inspiring the future of engineering and sparking curiosity. Engineering Open House Day aims to help children aged 5-16 and their parents/guardians understand what it’s like to work as an engineer or technologist. Through this ongoing ambition, to inspire the next generation of engineers , we want to raise awareness about the fantastic, creative and exciting careers available in the engineering industry. Engineers bring ideas to life, turn dreams into reality and make solutions to big challenges possible. They design, invent, fix and improve and they are changing our world for the better. Research tells us that 54% of children don’t know anything about careers in engineering and we’re trying to change that. The variety of careers in modern engineering is vast, yet demand for engineers in the UK far exceeds supply, so we need to encourage young people to feel excited about careers in STEM and nurture their natural curiosity about how the world works and why.
