We’ll cover on-road, on-your-bike practice sessions, working in small groups with our certified instructors to improve your bike handling skills, emergency maneuvers, and ability to confidently and safely bike on all types of streets and pathways. Participants who participate in classes will receive a free pair of bike lights! This class will be split into two parts, as follows: Part 1, On-the-bike drills (2 Hours) : This first section includes a group orientation then an on-bike session in a controlled environment like a parking lot or playground blacktop, practicing bike handling and hazard avoidance skills in a relaxed setting. Part 2, On-road group practice (2 Hours): For this second section instructors will take participants out on the road around nearby neighborhoods, streets, and paths, practicing our skills drills in a real world environment. Attending one of our “Day 1” Urban Cycling 101: Classroom Workshops or equivalent LAB Smart Cycling course is a prerequisite for the Urban Cycling 101: Day 2 Road Class. If this class is full, you can be added to the wait list or be notified about future sessions as they are added. Please bring: A functional bicycle. Helmet is strongly recommended, and required for students under 18. Snacks, water, and sunscreen. Ages 15 and up only. Any minors joining us for this class must be accompanied by an adult who is also participating in the class, and both must be registered individually. Students under 18 must wear a helmet. This is not a learn-to-ride class, and all participants are expected to be comfortable with the basics of balancing, pedaling, and steering. Overview Our mission at the OPCSMH is to serve as a resource center promoting a comprehensive approach to suicide prevention and mental health promotion at college campuses across the state of Ohio through collaboration with community stakeholders to prevent campus suicide and create a culture of care on Ohio campuses. In line with our mission, the goals for the 7th biennial conference include providing education on evidence-based, culturally relevant resources related to campus suicide prevention and mental health promotion through presentations from industry experts and creating and fostering a safe space for discussion of mental health and campus safety topics, including but not limited to mental health stigma, suicide risk, and substance misuse. To accomplish these goals, attendees of the conference will learn to identify how colleges and universities can collaborate with the campus-community to leverage the promotion of student safety & well-being, mental health awareness and campus suicide prevention efforts, encourage students, faculty, staff and administration to reconsider practices and strategies to improve access to behavioral health services on campus, and learn new best practices, resources, and help-seeking options that target suicide prevention for all campus-community student populations.
