Celtic legend Rudi Vata will be in Dublin to launch his book on November 21st at 7 PM at the Academy Plaza Hotel, located just off O’Connell Street at the junction of O’Connell Street and Cathal Brugha Street. This event, organised by Celtic supporters, aims to bring football fans in Ireland together to celebrate Rudi’s remarkable career. Attendance is free, and copies of Rudi’s book, Football, Freedom and Paradise, will be available for purchase. During the event, Rudi will be interviewed by his co-author Gerry McDade about his life and the inspiration behind his autobiography. Born in Albania in 1969, Rudi grew up under a repressive communist regime that stifled basic freedoms. He famously stated, You do not choose to be born under a dictatorship, but you choose whether to live under it. Devoted to football, he saw it as his path to freedom and self-determination. After representing his country in France in 1991, Rudi defected and sought political asylum, beginning a journey that would lead him around the globe, including a successful stint at Celtic FC. This is more than just a football story; it’s a powerful tale of a man who fought for his freedom and values it deeply. This event is a fantastic opportunity to meet Rudi and hear about his incredible personal journey and illustrious football career. Information Source: eventbrite

Tour for People who are Hard of Hearing Thursday 21 November, 11am Join us for an in focus discussion of artworks in our new exhibition Brian Maguire La Grande Illusion. This tour will focus on the artworks in Brian Maguire La Grande Illusion in Gallery 3 War Changes Its Address and Gallery 4 The Clock Winds Down Free, advance booking via Eventbrite For these tours, we use devices as individual loop devices which connect with a microphone headset worn by the tour guide, that can transit to the loop devices. They can then be used by people with hearing aids to connect to or for those hard of hearing but who don't have hearing aids, they can use their own or ADI's earpieces. Free, booking is essential. For Hearing Aid users: Information on the T setting and Tours It is necessary to have access to your T setting on your hearing aid to connect to the tour guide equipment. Not all hearing aids actually have the T setting as part of their standard functions. However, the majority of hearing aids provided by the HSE do have the T setting available. The hearing aids need to be programmed by the audiologist to include the T-coil program/Loop program/ T setting. Then the hearing aid user needs to understand how to access that program option, which is usually through pressing a button on their hearing aid or selecting this program from a drop-down list on an app on their mobile phone. Many hearing aids now have Bluetooth programs/ Bluetooth compatibility access as standard, however, these tend to be designed to function with brand-specific products and are not compatible with the equipment being used during this tour. Join DABF Guest Curator Adrian Duncan for an introduction to Possible Truths, an hour-long conversation between acclaimed journalists and writers Peter Geoghegan and Susan McKay, followed by a Q&A. What has emergence of new types of technologies in journalism done to the style, form, reference-making, and substance of storytelling in this sphere today? How does truth-making in journalism sit alongside ‘creative’ non-fiction? The conversation will touch on what the governance of 'truth' looks like today in electoral campaigning, and how the rules for ensuring truthful public utterances have become less and less fit for purpose. Dublin Art Book Fair (DABF) is produced by Temple Bar Gallery + Studios. It is a centre for contemporary artist books offering unique artist publications and titles from creative, small and independent publishers, both Irish and international. Each year, DABF presents an extended programme of events and a curated selection of books nominated by the Guest Curator. Adrian Duncan’s Fictions: The makings of other worlds considers different ways stories can be told; the images, spaces, objects, figures, feelings that emerge while doing so; and the sorts of truths they propose. Peter Geogheganis an Irish writer, broadcaster and journalist based in the UK. He works for the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project and before that was editor-in-chief at the award-winning website openDemocracy. His journalism has appeared in the New York Times, the Guardian, the London Review of Books and many other publications and his most recent book, Democracy for Sale: Dark Money and Dirty Politics, was a Sunday Times bestseller. Susan McKayis a writer and award winning journalist. She was appointed as Ireland’s Press Ombudsman in 2022, the first woman to hold the role. McKay was formerly CEO of the National Women’s Council of Ireland, and founded the Belfast Rape Crisis Centre in the 1980s. Her journalism has been published in the London Review of Books, The New York Times, the Irish Times and The Guardian. Her books include Northern Protestants – On Shifting Ground (Blackstaff, 2021), and Bear In Mind These Dead (Faber, 2007). DABF24 is proudly sponsored by Henry J Lyons and supported by Dublin UNESCO City of Literature. Information Source: Temple Bar Gallery + Studios | eventbrite
