Whitstable Rocks Oyster Festival | Whitstable
Celebration
This September, join us in Whitstable for three spectacular days celebrating oysters and immerse yourself in the unique charm of this seaside town. From historic oyster landing ceremonies to mud races, live music, and family fun, the Whitstable Rocks Oyster Festival is back and bigger than ever!
Whitstable's love affair with oysters is ancient – dating back to the Roman Empire, when Julius Caesar's soldiers developed a taste for Kent's finest molluscs. Later, Norman fishermen honored St. James of Compostela, the unofficial patron saint of oysters, with feasting and games.
Revived in the 1980s and returning for 2022, the Oyster Festival celebrates these traditions with music, fun, and, of course, oysters.
