The Forest of Dean Sculpture Trail celebrates 30 years of commissioning contemporary artworks with two new permanent commissions by artists Henry Castle and Pomona Zipser, unveiled on 15th July 2016. In Coal Measure Giants, rising British star Henry Castle brings to the surface aspects of what lies hidden beneath the Forest’s surface. Exploring the geological, industrial and sociological aspects of the Forest’s history, visitors will be able to touch the fossilized remains of 300 million year old trees and see the form of the mine shaft sets that provided a livelihood for generations of local freeminers. Two sculptures placed 300 metres apart act as markers, measuring the depth of the coal seam that lies directly below the ground. The work invites the public to experience a physical expression of this vertical depth. Meanwhile, Yaşasin by established Romanian artist Pomona Zipser creates a space and a structure from which to contemplate and observe the ever-changing forest. Berlin-based Zipser’s sculpture has been handcrafted from sweet chestnut felled from the site of the Trail and Zipser has collaborated with local artists and craftsmen to make the sculpture. It makes a thought-provoking and visual connection to the surrounding environment, playing with density, dimensions and colour.

Don’t be shy about it. Be brave and tell as many people as you can. It’s surprising how many people will donate to such a well-known, deserving charity, when they know you are doing something, which to them seems, ridiculous. Be Bold! The British Heart Foundation Heart and circulatory diseases are the world’s biggest killers, and they can affect any of us, including you. But thanks to the research The British Heart Foundation is funding, there is hope. By backing the brightest scientific minds, we have the power to find treatments and cures that could make the difference between your parents living to old age or not, your friend making it to graduation or not, your sister being a phone call away or not. This event is a bold one, just like our ambition to fund the science that keeps millions of hearts beating. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for signing up for the Naked Heart Walk and fundraising. Information Source: British Naturism | eventbrite

The firewalk is a portal into transformation—where the eternal element of fire becomes both teacher and witness to your breakthrough. The firewalk is a portal into transformation—where the eternal element of fire becomes both teacher and witness to your breakthrough. This ancient practice, used across cultures for millennia, invites you to walk barefoot across hot embers as a profound act of courage and self-discovery. It's a physical feat that carries deep symbolic weight: when you cross those coals, you're not just defying what you thought possible—you're stepping through fear itself and into a new version of yourself. Fire has always been humanity's great transformer—it purifies, it illuminates, it destroys what no longer serves so something new can emerge. When you approach the glowing bed of embers, you're engaging with one of nature's most primal forces, and in doing so, you're tapping into an ancient lineage of those who came before you and chose courage over comfort. The heat is real. The challenge is real. And so is your capacity to meet it. Through intentional preparation and expert guidance, you'll learn to shift your state—to move from fear into presence, from doubt into determination. The firewalk teaches you that your mental state directly shapes your physical reality. When your mind is scattered and fearful, the fire feels dangerous. When your mind is focused and calm, you move across the coals with grace and emerge unharmed. This isn't magic—it's the profound interplay between consciousness, physiology, and technique. Each footfall is both literal and metaphorical. With every step, you're burning away old patterns, releasing limiting beliefs, and proving to yourself that you are capable of walking through what once terrified you. You're not just crossing fire—you're crossing a threshold within yourself. And when you reach the other side, something has fundamentally shifted. You carry with you the embodied knowledge that fear is not a stop sign, that courage is a choice, and that transformation is always available when you're willing to take that first step into the unknown.
