The Self-Portraiture Workshop with Rafaela Luna is a transformative art-making experience that guides participants on a profound journey of self-discovery. Led by West Harlem's very own Rafaela Luna, this workshop breathes life into your self-portrait while examining the shaping of the self through the lens of social justice. No previous art experience is required, only an open heart and a desire to explore your identity through creativity.
The workshop will take place at Kota Alliance, located at 43 Saint Nicholas Place, New York, NY 10031. For those traveling via public transportation, the venue is conveniently within walking distance from the 145th Street Subway Station, accessible via lines A, B, C, and D. Alternatively, attendees coming from the United Nations HQ have the option to walk to the Bryant Park station or take the M42 bus and transfer to the D or B line. Buses M2, M3, M100, M101, and Bx6 also provide access to the venue.
In line with safety measures, vaccination is strongly encouraged and attendees are kindly asked to stay home if feeling unwell. Masks are optional. Please note that the building does not have an elevator, but there are chairs available for rest between the 15 stairs leading to the second floor where some events may take place. Bathrooms can be found on every floor, and there will be no flashing lights during the evening. Light, ambient music may play throughout the event.
