On March 21, 2026 Special Olympics Northern California will be hosting a Polar Plunge and 5K timed run to raise funds for Special Olympics and the free life changing sports, health, educational and athlete leaership programs offered to children and adults with intellectual disabilities for free. Registration for the run is $45 and includes a commemorative medal to everyone with awards presented to first, second and third place finishers in each category. REGISTRATION FEES INCREASE ON 1/1/2026 SO REGISTER EARLY! The Polar Plunge is not a swim. It is a quick dip in and out of the water and then on to the post Plunge festivities. Join us for CarrierCon 2026! The USS Hornet Sea, Air and Space Museum is proud to present CarrierCon, a convention celebrating cosplay, tabletop gaming, and Western and Japanese media. CarrierCon is an opportunity for people of all ages to share their love of cosplay and pop culture media while supporting a Bay Area local museum. We're featuring guests panelists, a cash prize for our cosplay contest, an overnight add-on, and more! The USS Hornet Sea, Air and Space Museum is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that utilizes historic aircraft carrier USS Hornet and the collections, exhibitions and educational programming to promote awareness and understanding of history, science, technology, and service. All proceeds made from CarrierCon go to support the USS Hornet Sea, Air and Space Museum. CarrierCon is a way for the Museum to engage with new audiences and broaden awareness of the Hornet Museum. It was created and is run by the Museum Staff and our Volunteers to combine and share our and our guests' passions for popular culture and history. Pop culture superstars from movies to television shows to video games have all pulled heavily from military and Navy ships, uniforms, and general aesthetics and we're proud to show you why when you come aboard for cosplay photography and general enjoyment! We will use sit-on-top paddle kayaks with fishing gear and troll along the Alameda Rock Wall for the seasonal halibut; all kayak, fishing gear, & bait + tackle provided. We will start the day with a quick overview of skills for kayaking and fishing, fishing line setups, and bait. Then paddle out and ride the currents as we troll for halibut.
