It's Fashion revolution Week, Take a stand against fast fashion and join us to celebrate and showcase the joy of mending and repairing in our special FREE Mend In Public Day Event here at Stitch-Up! We will be taking over the reception and garden at Meanwood Community Centre! Bring along an item of clothing or textiles that needs repairing and learn how to mend it with our textile artists Elnaz and Lorna. Learn about more mending, darning and textile workshops, groups and opportunities at Stitch-Up. Be inspired by beautiful examples of visible mending and repairing. Drinks & cakes available. Drop In anytime between 1pm and 4 pm. Booking Preferred so we have a good idea of overall numbers attending. This is a Free event but donations welcome on the day for food, drinks and mending activities. All donations support the running of our weekly community programme of courses, groups and workshops. Location Our Studio is situated in Meanwood Community Centre, Stainbeck Avenue, LS7 2QU.There is ample parking available at the Community Centre Car Park. If you cannot fit in the Car Park, please park on the main part of Stainbeck Avenue, with consideration to the residents please do not park in the cul-de-sac. Join us for a joyful afternoon and evening of songs celebrating Beltane! At this singing workshop we will explore traditional and original songs inspired by this beautiful turning point of the year. Led by experienced choir leaders and Natural Voice Network Practitioners, Georgie Buchanan and Alana Middleton, we will spend time relaxing into the connection between voice and body before coming together in song. We will learn traditional songs of the season as well as original songs by Georgie and Alana. The evening will culminate in a concert of traditional and original songs and stories from acclaimed local folk artists Georgie Buchanan (harp and voice) and Alana Middleton (fiddle and voice) In between the workshop and the concert we will have a bring a dish picnic at the venue. Feel free to bring some food to share to celebrate this beautiful day together. All voices are welcome. A gentle yoga class suitable for beginners or those with experience who prefer a slower-paced and mindful approach to yoga. Each week we explore gentle movement, yoga posutres, breathing practices , rest and relaxation - drawing on Hatha yoga, Mindfulness practices, gentle Somatics and Somatic approaches to yoga. The approach is helpful for unwinding tightness and tension from the body, relieving pain and discomfort, reducing fatigue and tiredenss, and learning to move and live with greater freedom and ease. The class has a relaxed and non-competitive vibe. Students are encouraged to only join in the parts of the class that feel right for them. If you've ever wanted to learn to crochet, then this workshop is for you! Our brilliant crochet teacher Bev will start from the very beginning and spend some time on how best to hold your hook to set you up for success in learning to crochet. You will then be guided through all of the basic techniques and stitches you need to crochet including chain stitch and treble crochet whilst using a granny square pattern as a basis to learn. You will leave with all the skills and confidence you need to work on your crochet projects at home. Crochet is such a fun and versatile skill to learn and a great hobby to keep your hands busy and help you relax. All materials are included It's perfect way to spend your Saturday morning being creative in the surroundings of our lovely studio. Join us at Boot and Rally on Thursday June 19th for an intimate evening of burlesque and cabaret! Doors open at 7.30pm and the show starts at 8pm. The event is held in the basement level of the bar, down approx. 15 steps on a narrow staircase. Unfortunately there are no accessible bathrooms on site. Join us for an Introduction to Free Machine Embroidery Evening Workshop with Elnaz as part of our new Thursday Taster Evenings! Free motion machine embroidery is a fun and creative way to stitch on a machine, often referred to as freestyle embroidery. Elnaz will introduce you to using the sewing machine with a special free-motion foot attached to guide the fabric through as you stitch youw own unique freestyle designs. All materials are included and you will leave with your completed embroidered piece. The course is suitable for complete beginners or those wanting to refresh their skills, no previous sewing machine experience is needed. Hot drinks and biscuits are included. To make our Thursday taster evenings as accessable as possible, we have made the tickets as low cost as we can without affecting the quaility of the workshop. If you would really like to attend this workshop but feel you cannot afford the ticket price please contact jen@stitch-up.org.uk as we sometimes have hardship bursary places available. Join us for our Beginners Sewing workshop with brilliant local artist Bev Rhodes. Bev is multidisciplinary artist who loves sharing their craft knowledge and helping others find wellbeing through craft and creativity. Sewing is such a fun and versatile skill to learn and there are so many things that you can make once you've learnt how to use a sewing machine. It is also a great hobby to have to help you relax and look after your everyday wellbeing. During this workshop you will learn how to use a sewing machine before turning scrappy fabrics or yarn ends into quilted pouches to take home. Welcome to family pottery where you can unleash your creativity together! During this two hour workshop, we will be focussing on handbuilding where you will learn how to creat a pot using coiling techniques. If you fancy creating a small, scultputal piece you will be taught relevant techniques for this, and will be fully supported. Adding colour and design You will be able to add colour, pattern and texture to your work as it progresses. When your work is finished, it will be fired, glazed and fired again. This final process makes your work non-porous and food safe. All materials, equipment and the firing of your work in a kiln is included in the price. It will take two to three weeks to process your work. As soon as it is ready for you to collect you will be contacted. There are two workshops. This booking is for 1pm - 3pm slot. This year's playscheme at Meanwood Valley Urban Farm is now LIVE! It will run from 9.30am until 2.30pm Monday to Friday. We do not accept responsibility for children outside of these times. Places are limited and you should complete your booking ASAP to avoid disappointment! As in previous years the helpers have already been selected so we will only be taking children aged 8 to 11 years old and we may ask for evidence of your child's age. Build a Bear , The Deep and Leeds Rhinos have all donated prizes this year which will be given out on the final day to the children with the most GREEN CARDS. These are given to children throughout the week to reward helpful and compassionate behaviour as well as any achivements. Monday morning starts with a guided tour of the farm and it's animals. It also brings back the boat race that children ask to have every year along with water day (please bring a change of clothes). Tuesday is Sugar Well Hill Race day. Trophies for the boy's and girl's winners with special medals for the winners of each age group. Everyone who participates in the race will also recieve a medal. In the afternoon is our annual Zombie invasion. This year we have recieved a kind donation of goodies from Smiffys to help make it even more special! Wednesday test out your bush craft skills with firelighting and den building then toast some marshmallows before learning how to survive the black death! This year we are finally teaming up with Meanwood Olympics . We'll be taking the children across the road for fun, games and some sports. Thursday we are very excited to welcome back Creature Ark to run sessions with creepy crawlies, snakes and more. Then we will put the children to work for an afternoon of experiencing how our Farmer Amy looks after our animals! Friday we are running the talent show again but coupling it with show and tell for all the kids who don't want to be dancers or stand up comedians! In the morning there will be witches and wizards.
