"Firearms Hunter Safety: Skills and Exam Day - Wilton" is a comprehensive course designed for young individuals aged 10-16 and anyone interested in attending an in-person session. Before attending the class at the WIlton Fish and Game Club in Wilton, ME on October 29, 2023, participants must complete the online portion or receive a paper manual/workbook (mailed after registration).
The course covers a wide range of important topics including landowner relations, ethics, wildlife conservation, fire building, and more. Students aged 10-15 have the option to complete the online course, but to receive full certification, they must attend the in-person skills and exam session.
During the 8-hour classroom instruction, participants will learn essential skills in survival/first aid, hunter ethics, Maine hunting laws, safe firearms handling, and map and compass navigation. Practical hands-on activities and workshops will be included, ensuring students have the opportunity to apply what they've learned.
To successfully complete the session, students must demonstrate their ability to handle firearms safely, actively participate in all activities, bring a survival kit, and pass a 50-question exam with a minimum score of 70%.
