Come fall in love with long exposure water photography in a supportive all-female group Don't feel left out on Valentine's Day! Come join a group of like-minded, supportive women and find something new to fall in love with. You'll spend the day learning long exposure waterfall and cascade photography while celebrating female friendship. DATE : Saturday February 14th EVENT COST: $275 + GST + Eventbrite fee** SKILL LEVELS : All levels but best suited to beginners/intermediates NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS: Max of 4 participants to ensure enough attention for everyone ABOUT THIS WORKSHOP Join landscape photographer Fiona McLean for a day out in Vancouver's North Shore photographing waterfalls and cascades on some of the local creeks. We'll meet at Delbrook Community Centre and then head to our location(s) from there. You'll learn the fundamentals of long exposure water photography as well as some more advanced techniques: - what camera settings to use - how to choose the right exposure - which filters to use and when - use of tripods - practising with different shutter speeds - using different lenses - composition techniques - mistakes to avoid While the workshop is suitable for all levels, it is particularly aimed at women who are at a beginner to intermediate level in photography and/or long exposure techniques. A good level of fitness is required as we will be walking on trails to get to some of the falls and water features. Total distance over the course of the day could be from 3-8 kms with 100-300 metres elevation gain depending on the locations we go to. NOTE: It is likely we will be going to a couple of different locations. They will be chosen based on what the weather conditions and water levels will be like on the day of the workshop. EQUIPMENT NEEDED A camera that allows manual settings (mirrorless or DSLR) A tripod Filters - Polarising and Neutral Density (ND) filters Hiking boots / sturdy footwear - lined rubber boots are suggested for getting into the water Suitable outdoor clothing - waterproof jacket and pants, warm layers, hat and gloves EQUIPMENT RECOMMENDED Shutter release or app for remote shooting Spare batteries and memory cards WHAT'S NOT INCLUDED Transport (unless arranged separately) Food/drinks Personal expenses Insurance (medical, travel, equipment) If you would like to attend but do not have all the equipment, please let me know as I may have some spare items that I can lend or I can suggest where to rent. In order to reduce emissions and our impact on the locations we're shooting at, I encourage car pooling and can provide transport from our meeting spot to the local trails. **To avoid the Eventbrite fees, contact me to arrange for invoicing and to pay by e-transfer instead. ABOUT FIONA Fiona took up photography back in 2000 shooting on a Canon SLR. Her initial training was in documentary photography and photojournalism but she always captured the landscape and scenery when she was travelling and doing outdoor activities. She returned to photography seriously in 2016 and shortly afterwards fell in love with long exposure waterfall photography. She has been chasing waterfalls ever since and has photographed hundreds of them across a number of countries. Fiona is also a qualified hiking guide and is certified in wilderness first aid.
