The Archibald Prize, the Wynne Prize, and the Sullman Prize surprise and delight audiences each year with a fresh perspective on contemporary Australian painting and sculpture. At its core, the Archibald Prize is about storytelling. Which figures do the artists choose to depict? What do their portraits reveal to us? In this exhibition, Australian and New Zealand artists use portraiture to showcase the allure and complexity of our time. The Winne Prize recognizes two main art categories: Australian landscape painting and figurative sculpture. The prize showcases both the rich and diverse natural landscapes of Australia and the diversity and originality of contemporary sculpture. The Sullman Prize is awarded to projects featuring thematic painting, genre painting, or murals. Every year, the council members of the Art Gallery of New South Wales select the Archibald Prize and the Wynne Prize, and invite a guest artist to serve as a judge for the Sullman Prize. In 2026, renowned artist Del Catherine Barton will serve as a judge for the Sullman Prize. This unmissable annual exhibition of finalists and winners has become a regular feature of our art calendar. One ticket grants you access to these three prestigious awards. Please vote for your favorite portrait in the ANZ People's Choice Awards by Sunday, July 26, 2026, to enter the race for a chance to win $2,000. Don't miss the free "Little Archie" exhibition on the first floor of the Cardo Hall, showcasing works by a new generation of artists aged 5 to 18. Also, attend the 2026 Archibald Prize, Winn Prize, and Sullman Prize exhibitions and pick up a free self-guided tour for children.
