Sports & Fitness
The NRA Certified Pistol Instructor Course is a specialized program designed for experienced shooters who wish to become qualified instructors using the NRA's proven lesson plans and training methods. To be eligible for this course, participants must have completed the NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting Course as a student. Additionally, candidates must have undergone the NRA Basic Instructor Training within the previous 24 months. If these prerequisites have not been met, please contact High Desert Firearm Training at 951-544-9190 and arrangements can be made.
Participants are required to bring their own pistol (semi-automatic or revolver) and 200 rounds of factory new ammunition (no reloads). Eye and ear protection are essential, as well as an extra magazine or speed-loader. It is also recommended to bring the book from when you took the class as a student. Replacement books can be purchased for $25 at the class if needed.
Throughout the course, both classroom and range time will be utilized to impart the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively teach the sport of shooting handguns. Role-playing exercises play a significant role in the training, allowing candidates to practice conducting portions of the course to fellow candidates portraying basic students. Topics covered include the NRA's rules for safe gun handling, pistol parts and operation, ammunition, shooting fundamentals, range rules, cleaning, and opportunities for skill development.
It is important to note that the NRA Instructor Courses are performance-based, requiring candidates to demonstrate the necessary knowledge, skills, and attitude for this level of training. Successful completion of the course will allow candidates to become NRA Certified Pistol Instructors, subject to meeting all requirements.
Please be aware that classes, training, and certification are only available to individuals who are not disqualified from possessing a firearm as defined by applicable federal, state, or local law. Individuals with a conviction for a crime of violence are automatically disqualified. Furthermore, compliance with U.S. Federal ITAR Regulations necessitates that students be U.S. Citizens or Legal Residents with a Green Card.
