Join us for a series of interactive sessions with our experienced anaesthetists.
Join Dr. Adam Auckburally BVSc, PhD, CVA, Dipl.ECVAA, FHEA, MRCVS and Professor Derek Flaherty BVMS, DVA, Dipl.ECVAA, CertECC, FHEA, FRCVS for a series of interactive sessions. Each of the sessions will help you to interpret information displayed on your multiparameter monitor, and give you confidence in the management of common complications encountered during general anaesthesia in dogs and cats.
Sessions throughout the afternoon include;
· It’s a gas, gas, gas: pulse oximetry and management of hypoxaemia
· Beat me baby one more time: common arrhythmias encountered during general anaesthesia
· Every breath you take: capnography tips and trips
· Under pressure: pitfalls of blood pressure measurement and dealing with hypotension.
The interactive sessions will be presented by:
Derek Flaherty BVMS, DVA, DipECVAA, MRCA, CertECC, FHEA, FRCVS
RCVS and EBVS® Specialist in Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia
Professor of Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia
Derek qualified from Glasgow University in 1988 and then spent 6 years working for the PDSA, before returning to Glasgow to undertake a Residency in Veterinary Anaesthesia. He holds both the RCVS Diploma in Veterinary Anaesthesia and the Diploma of the European College of Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia, and is an EBVS® and RCVS Recognised Specialist in the subject. He has also gained membership of the Royal College of Anaesthetists, one of only a handful of vets granted this honour. Derek was granted a Personal Professorship in Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia by the University of Glasgow in 2012, and was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2017 for Meritorious Contributions to Clinical Practice.

Adam qualified from Liverpool University in 1998 and went on to spend 6 years in a busy, mixed veterinary practice in rural Staffordshire, where he developed a keen interest in anaesthesia and critical care. He then completed a Residency at Glasgow University and was awarded the RCVS Certificate in Veterinary Anaesthesia in 2006, and the European Diploma in Veterinary Anaesthesia & Analgesia in 2007. Adam completed a PhD in equine anaesthesia and pulmonary physiology at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Uppsala, Sweden in 2021, and he is an EBVS® and RCVS Recognised Specialist in Veterinary Anaesthesia & Analgesia.
