VEJA A VERSÃO EM PORTUGUÊS MAIS ABAIXO 🎉 You are invited to our Festa Junina! 🎉 Saturday, 13 June | 1pm to 5:30pm 📍 Brunswick Primary School Put on your checked shirts and straw hats and join us for our traditional Brazilian Festa Junina, a joyful celebration full of colour, music and culture. We are bringing together an afternoon of Brazilian traditions, music and community spirit, with something for everyone to enjoy. Expect live music, dancing including the lively quadrilha, often described as the Brazilian version of a Scottish ceilidh with its own unique twist, delicious food, games and much more. 🌽 What is Festa Junina? Festa Junina is one of Brazil’s most loved celebrations. It has roots in Indigenous, African and European traditions and takes place around the time of St John’s Day, known in Brazil as São João. Over time, these influences have come together to create a festival that is rich in culture and closely connected to life in the countryside, simple, lively and centred around community. At Clube dos Sábias, we would really like to share a bit of that feeling not just with our students but with the Brighton & Hove community. There will be live music with Tudo Bem! and Friends, and a Maracatu workshop with Baque da Abelha (pre-booking required) . You can join the “make an instrument” session beforehand, then learn a song with the musicians and play it together with everyone at the end. We will also have stalls, a DJ set, a short presentation from our students, games and a raffle. There will of course be plenty of food stalls, with traditional Festa Junina flavours for everyone to enjoy. We would be very happy to have you there! 🥁 Highlights of the day Live music by Tudo Bem! and Friends Maracatu drum workshop with Baque da Abelha (Pre-booking required) DJ set by DJ Deni from Forró by the Sea Students performance Quadrilha with Tio Lelo Raffle and games And more! 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 This event is open to the whole community 📩 If you have any questions, please contact us at: clubedossabias@gmail.com 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷 🎉 Você está convidado para a nossa Festa Junina!

Creative Writing Masterclass on Plot | Jubilee Library

Plotting with Julia Crouch How do you shape a story? This masterclass takes a look at the thinking behind constructing a plot and takes it forward into practical techniques and processes. By the end of the day you will have the draft of a brand new plot and you’ll also take away lots of ideas and tools for working on your current projects. Julia Crouch is the author of ten internationally published novels. She coined the term Domestic Noir to describe her own particular sub-genre of psychological thriller. She came to fiction through a series of callings that took in theatre directing, playwriting, screenwriting, double-entry bookkeeping, teaching, graphic and website design and children’s book writing and illustration. Julia has been an RLF Fellow and Visiting Fellow on the UEA MA Creative Writing Crime Fiction and teaches online for Faber Academy and the National Centre for Writing, as well as mentoring individual clients. She regularly chairs book events at festivals and gives one-off lectures and master classes. The session will be held at the Jubilee Library in Brighton and will run from 10:15-16:15 with an hour for lunch. The venue is fully accessible, near the train station and bus routes and with plenty of options for lunch (including bringing your own).
