SINAG, a collective of local Filipino American artists, is set to showcase their inaugural group exhibition titled "Ray of Light." This initiative, meaning "ray of light," originated from Geraldine Martinez Benz's quest for connection and creativity. Amid the pandemic, she utilized online platforms and social networks to unite with fellow Filipino artists in the Greater Chicago area. SINAG's presence has since graced esteemed venues like the Zhou B Gallery, Evanston Arts Center, and the Chicago Public Library, among others. Their participation in local events such as The Umbrella Arts Festival and Manila Zoo Chicagoland has not only bolstered individual artists but also highlighted the abundance of Filipino artistic talent in Illinois. Comprising members spanning different age demographics, SINAG aims to raise awareness of the diverse Filipino visual artists thriving in the region. The upcoming art opening, featuring 48 Filipino American artists, will take place at the Evanston Art Center on April 26, 2024, offering free admission to all attendees.
